30 minutes, but if he's a good friend he probably laughed over it as you kept running back and forth apologizing, so no harm done last night.

Depends partly on other factors you have not mentioned.

Is he coming over for work after a normal workday and 10-15 minute commute and planning to be there most of the evening? Then 90 minutes might not be too long. However if he had to work two or three hours overtime, has a one hour commute home, has not had anything to eat since lunch, then he is probably ready to eat the moment he walks in the door.

hmm i think 30 or 20 min is reasonable ..... when ur guest comes in wait 5 or 10 min and serve appetizers or starters and within 20 to 30min u could serve dinner.. that way ur guest wouldnt be so hungry because they had appetizers but hungry enough to eat

If no appetizers are served then 30 minutes is appropriate

It depends on how much he likes you.

If it is a bf or potential bf, any wait up to 3 hours is fine. After that time expire, I guess he is supposed to politely order pizza.or offer to help cooking.

In short, if I was your man friend and you are nice enough to be cooking dinner for me, I'm not gonna complain it took too long.

If you invited him over for dinner, he was probably hungry when he got there.
Thirty minutes is an appropriate amount of time...ninety was WAY too much!

I'd say roughly 1 hour. Get aquainted, chat, etc for about 1 hour then dinner!
