I searched the computer for files containg the word paint, and I can get to it, but the program is not responsive. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using it the make photos of my friend on someone else's body, so if you know good software, that would also help!

I'd forget about Paint myself and get Paint.net, http://getpaint.net/ or you could try PhotoPlus, http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/
Paint.net is the easiest to use and is like a very stripped down version of PhotoShop, PhotoPlus is more feature rich and more comparable to PhotoShop but also harder to use. I have both installed for various purposes, each have some things they do best.

Just reinstall it with your windows cd
