Ozzy Osborne's "War Pigs".
The early Catholic church recast many Pagan deities as demons and devils whenever they encountered them. The image of the devil was originally a version of Pan, or "The Horned God"...a healing deity. The church recast him as a demon...Satan himself...to attatch the stigma of evil to the pagans they were trying to dominate.

Nope. He got "transformed" by the minds of close-minded, intolerant evangelical Christians who were trying to convert the European Pagans.
Satan is Lucifer, the most beautiful angel by human standards. He was also the most powerful, and the power went to his head enough that he decided he didn't have to obey God. That's what got him cast out of heaven, according to Christian mythology.
The Pagans of Europe honored a dual deity...the Great Mother Goddess, and her consort, the Horned God. The Goddess was symbolized by the Earth, pregnancy, eggs, plants and farming, while the God was symbolized by a stag with a full rack of antlers, a bull, or some other horned animal. This is where the goat imagery comes in. He was also symbolized by the eating of meat, shedding of blood, sex, and all the other stuff the early Christians hated and feared.
When the Christians decided to conquor and forcibly convert the Pagans to their way of thinking they chose to merge the God symbol (which was originally only a man wearing an animal skin) into a mutant half-man, half-animal creature. Sexuality and lust, which was originally sacred to the God, was abhorrent to the early Christians, so that was grouped with the new image of evil.
The ugly mutant thing's image was chosen to represent Lucifer, because it was easier to convince people to be afraid of, and avoid anything ugly. Beauty naturally attracts people, and that's the last thing the Christans wanted...
The name of Satan comes from the Arabic word "shaitan" which means 'adversary.'

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Historically, early Christians took the pagan images of Pan and the Horned God and made them the image of Satan - the harbinger of ultimate evil. They did this to scare the living shite out of pagans in the hopes that it would aid them in their Christian conversion. Given that pagans are still around, I believe this technique only served to scare the living shite out of Christians. Further...
If you take a look at the bible, angels come in various forms and work at various levels. There is a description of a wheel made out of eyes, a ball of light, warrior angels like the Archangel Michael welding swords, etc., thus not all angels are what we perceive them to be - mythical figures that are all white and have feathered wings. So...
In reality, is Satan a variation of the pagan horned god with feet like Pan? Who knows. Satan is a Christian mythological construct so only Christians have an intimate knowledge of him.

The red goat looking thing with horns and a tail is hollywoods view of him. The truth is that Satan was the more beautiful angel in Heaven. He was God most beloved angel, and really, he was evil, and betrayed God. Perhaps thats why things that are of him, for example, gossip, perverted sex, being rich, acquiring lots of "things" in life; looks good and pleasing to the eye, it really hurts you in the end, and ruins lives.

Satan is the Prince of the power of the air. his demons look very weird and there small. about a foot and a half long. with very evil eyes.I screamed but no sound came out when I saw some flying around my brothers bed when I was four. I woke up trembling with fear and there was a greenish light in the room. they have been with him since then. I will never forget that one looking over at me with those evil eyes..someone told me that they will stay with him till he dies and will drag him to hell.he told me once that he was afraid to die as he felt he was going to hell.

well according to Islam. Satan was NOT an angel..
Angels are the workers of God. they do not have free will, they cannot make up their minds or do anything of themselves.. They only do Gods footwork, delivering his messages etc. They are created of light.
We are created of dust.. we have free will
Satan was one of a kind. he was created of fire and has free will. God asked him along with the angels to bow down to his creation of Adam.. He refused (free will playing here).. God punished him for that and sent him to hell...
He therefore gets upset and seeks revenge claiming to take as many people to hell as he can..
