OpenOffice and StarOffice are more or less the same product and I honestly don't know the difference(s) between them, except that you have to pay for StarOffice. I do know that OpenOffice is not compatible with presentations made in PowerPoint but it does have its own presentation program, it will not create, open or save in PowerPoint formats. If that is a concern, then I'm affraid Microsoft Office is your only choice. Other than that, it is mostly compatible with Excel and Word documents, as far as its databse and draw applications go, I can't comment on those as I have never used them. I've also never used OpenOffice on a regular basis, while my college had Office Professional 2003 for $15 for an unlimited license, I snatched it up, they no longer offer that deal but I'm glad I got it while I did.

well i know open office is free, never heard of star, and microsoft office is a name brand. In all i think its a matter of eye candy, micro has all the pop and swirls most people like to look at, and open office only offer the basics the same stuff micro offered in '97, and it works find
