It is up to the two of you to decide. Unmarried couples who are still together tend to give the baby the father's name (presumably in case they decide to get married at a later point) but seeing as you are apart, it's just something you have to work out.

My daughter has my maiden name. When my 2nd daughter was born I gave her my maiden name until her father and I decided we could change it to his name. We are now married so we all have the same last name. Ultimately...as much as it sucks- it's her choice. Unless you sign an affidavit of parentage in the hospital and the birth cert. then the baby will get her last name at least temporarily.

Normally,a child would have the father's last name, but it is not wrong to give the mother's last name. But if i were in that situation,I would still name my kid after their dad.
