Satellite radio is great. Sound is clear and the distortion will only be caused by your equipment, not the satellite radio itself. I also have a High Deffintion Radio (HD Radio) and it sounds the same. The only differnece between HD Radio and Sattellite Radio is the fact that HD Radio is free and has commercials and Sattellite Radio will cost about 15 dollars a month and you will not have commercials. I would recomend HD Radio first , but only for the fact that its free.
On a scale of 1-10, i would rate the sound quality:
(1 being cassette quality and 10 being cd quality)
HD Radio - 8.5
Satellite Radio - 9

The sound Quality is good as long as you have a good basic radio to listen with . and the antenna is placed correctly . you may loose the satellite signal if in the city and signal is blocked by tall buddings , or on a country road with very tall trees . final comment is to look at radios that have both a home and car docks . so you can listen at home or in the car . the newest and best units . can go anywhere as a portable boom box . or used like a Walkman . . and can record programs for you to listen to later

I had XM for a short time. XM claims to be "CD quality", however XM is far from CD quality. Most mp3s sound better than XM. My ratings for XM on a scale of 1-10: Price=3. Even at half price, XM is expensive. Sound Quality=3 Buy a better system and some CDs, not XM. Content=5 I did like the Reggae, Blues, and '40s channels.

I have Sirius Satellite Radio and it is awesome! I had it about a year. The cost is about $30-40 for the radio and about $13 a month for service.
