Can you get a different hall? I think I'd set up a table in the parking lot. Talk to the hall manager. I'd get a different hall.

It is not unheard of at all. In fact, We are getting married in July at a winery that I work at. They don't allow anyone to take any of the leftovers home either. As far as why they don't want you to take it home... it's a health issue. Say, if you take it from the place, and don't properly refrigerate it or something, it could make people sick the next day. If that happens, it falls back on the caterer because they prepared the food, even though they followed health standards when preparing the food. They could get into big trouble with the health dept. if their food made people sick, even if it was not in their building when consumed. They just don't want to have it end up being a liability.

I"ve never heard of that, most places that I've been to and had an event catered, they've always boxed up the left over food and sent it home with me. After all, I've already paid for it. The only way I can think of is if they're charging you only for the food they serve, then, there are no leftovers. It's the same as bringing a "doggie bag" home from a restaurant. I'd ask your venue again, and get their reasoning.

Actually, no it's not unheard of. Each venue/catering company has different rules about these things. Try meeting with the staff there and tell them about this tradition. See if they can arrange a take home basket for the two of you to enjoy.

Unheard of, No. Unrealistic, Yes! You paid for it and unless they want to give you a discount for the uneaten food, It is yours! They will try to give liability BS but that is what it is. Once you leave the hall with the food it is your responsibility and the hall is no longer liable. What else will they do with it besides throw it out?

I've never heard of that. Ask them what the reason is for not allowing you to take the food home. If it's because they don't want to pack up everything for you, then say you'll do it yourself. I don't think they have any right to tell you that you can't take it. If you are supplying the food, then it's your food, not theirs.

This is pretty normal, because they cannot guarantee that the food will be stored safely, especially with sea food, once it has left their premises, therefore, if you store it wrong and someone gets sick, you cannot blame the venue. That's safeguarding their business.

If it's a buffet type place then you're not allowed to take food out, you cannot go into a all you can eat place and get a "doggy bag", that's just how they do it.

same thing happened when my sister got married on this "historical ship". Food was pricey and they told us we couldnt take home leftovers. I think it's dumb. If you pay for it...you should be able to take it with you.
