Yes I reckon your about right, but even when evolution is proved beyond any doubt, we will still have religion, why? because its addictive people need the fix.

Since the early years, mankind has used gods, goddesses, and other mythical creatures to explain things they do not know or things they fear. And since the early years, people claiming to be agents (priests, holy men, etc.) of these deities, have used this power to control and manipulate populations. This is called religion. Many people feel overwhelmed by the world. So many things. So many feelings. So many problems. Better to have some sort of imaginary figure who is in charge of everything and who, if only you follow their rules and their rules only, will take care of you during that scariest of times, death.

I believe in God. I believe that religion is a way to worship God. A series of rituals and prayers. If I try to look at it as a non-believer, then I'd say man created religion.

I am Buddhist, my dharma doesn't require me to contemplate or confirm questions of this nature because this type of question is moot. It therefore is a waste of my time...

Even if an answer were possible, what possible gain would I accomplish by knowing the answer, would it allow me to jump tall buildings with a single leap...?

The Lord Buddha contemplated life and its endless cycle of rebirth and showed the way or method to rid ourselves of this world's distractions due to physical and mental self serving wants and cravings. Did not the Christian Bible say 'thou shalt not covet?' If you follow this tenet correctly then perhaps you too will become enlightened and evolve ......

Is this not a good thing..??

Rid yourself of such things like these moot questions....they have no meaning and follow your 'religion' properly....

Don't covet.....anything....realise one of the Noble Truths...there is suffering....realise another...suffering is caused by selfish desire....covetting....now realise a third....relinquish those cravings and you will cease suffering...and the last one....to relinquish suffering follow the Eightfold Path.....

Do you experience suffering of any kind....?

Religion was created as a way to control people. They didn't want people getting syphillis or killing other people. So they started the commandments. Unfortunately for today, people use religion as a crutch, instead of finding solutions to their own problems, they seek to God for the answers.

God came on the scene at the same time as humankind. Some believe that if God did not already exist we would have invented him.

religion is one way to find answers of things that you cannot explain

I assume that when all is able to be explained, then religion will end, but this day seems still too far away
