I am adopting my nephew and he cries evertime I leave a room, or my husband picks him up, or I do anything where he cant see me he pitches a fit. Is there anything I can do to get him to stop?

Well, not really, but you can help him to understand that you are coming back. Try offering him a hand instead of being held and have your husband hold him while you are still there . . . no change is easy for a baby. They just don't understand what is going on. It will just take time for you, your husband and your nephew to learn to understand each other and to trust each other. Stick with it. Always speak calmly and reassuringly to him and around him. It will be a long road I am sure, but if you stick with it, it will get easier.

Good Luck!

I too have always had this problem with my son. He's now 16 months and pretty much the same. He is a very sensitive, clingy child which makes him a "high needs" child. Give your nephew lots of clingy, hug and cuddle time with you so that he knows you are there for him when he needs the affection. Once he becomes more comfortable being on his own a little (with you still there but not trying to cling to you) then try leaving him with a close friend or relative for a short period of time. This will allow him to rely on someone other than yourself which is good for him and for you.
Good luck.

It's just separation anxiety! He'll out grow it once he realizes that you'll come back! He's probably been through alot and is used to seeing "mommy" leave and NOT come back...he'll out grow it..but YOU need to have understanding and patience!

play "peek-a-boo" with him. it teaches kids to learn that even if they can't see you, you are still there... plus it's fun for them
