I don't think it's wise to buy a Canon camera period.

Yes, definitely bring a camera. I went to India, before I had my digital camera. I brought a film camera, but lost one of the 5 rolls of film that I took. I was crushed! I can't imagine how you'd feel going there and not bringing back any pictures at all. On the other hand, since you're 11, I'm guessing your parents or whoever you're going with will bring one, so you can look at their pictures and maybe they'll let you use their camera sometimes. There is theft in India, but that's true of everywhere else on earth, too. If you bring one, odds are very small that it'll be stolen, but still just be careful with it. If it has a strap, use that. I'll often wrap the strap around my wrist twice. And certainly don't do anything stupid like sit in a parked car with your camera in your hand and that hand hanging out the window.

You bought a $450 camera to get good pictures right? When will you ever travel to India again? You will want the best camera possible to get GREAT pictures! There is a lot of cultural differences in India compared to the USA and you will want to capture true
to life images! Maybe also take a few quality disposable cameras with flash? You can buy the Fuji disposable cameras with flash for cheap at Wal-Mart! Then when you come back, get them developed and put onto a CD :)

Yes. How else are you going to take excellent photos of a place you may never visit again. Life is too short.

Yes..just be careful and always keep it with you.
Take extra precautions when travelling in trains or buses because they can be crowded.
