You are absolutely right. Too many Americans see a very limited view of what is happening in immigration in the US. There are illegal immigrants from many different countries of many different ethnic and national origin.
I think the ones who listen to about 5 minutes of news a day, at the most, hear little sound bytes of information that stick in their head as absolute truths.
They hear things like, "A van was stopped on interstate XX and was discovered to have about 50 Mexican nationals aboard... Some were near death...These illegal immigrants..." Okay, that sound byte was their news of the week.
Then a few months later they hear, "Congress is considering a proposition to build a security fence along the border with Mexico in order to help stem the flow of illegal immigrants..." Okay, that sound byte was stored next to the previous sound byte and now their whole image of illegal immigration is based on little information and no perspective.
Don't expect too much elevated discussion here though. I've seen some people answer some very good questions with insults and "Huh?" or, "You wrote too much for me to read."
There are some good political blogs on the Internet that you might find more stimulating.

You are absolutely correct to think most have not traveled outside this country. There is no way people who have seen how others live in poor countries could not understand the intense desire to make things better for their family. They are innocent victims of corrupt governments and lack of natural resources. Few people leave for other countries without a great sense of remorse. They leave behind other family members, their land, their heritage and other aspects of their cultures to come to a land where they are denigrated and a culture in which it is difficult to assimilate. I guarantee you - without a doubt - I would do the same if it were a choice between my children going hungry and having a substandard education and starting a new life in a country where I could find a decent job and make a living wage.
I suggest people in this forum watch the documentary called " A Day Without a Mexican" - or better yet, take a quick trip to Tijuana and tell me if you would raise your children there.

It is clear to me that you have actually read little to none of the responses to illegal immigration.... even here on Yahoo Answers the majority of answers don't have anything to do with racism (BTW: Mexican, Latino, Hispanic are *NOT* races). Most of the responses that I have seen are along the lines of "What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand?"

Why is it that every time we bring up something anti- illegal immigration, we are racist ? You are in our country illegally, and you have no good reason for doing it this way. What are we sick of ? we are sick of your BS reasons for doing it illegally, like, a better life, or the world was made by God and we should have no borders, or it was our land first, and this one, we just broke your laws a little bit.

I'm against illegal aliens being in the US and for the big fence that is going up. I have been to more countries then my age (22). I go to all of them legally though. I would never rape a country and enter her without her knowing and approving.

And anti-illegals are stereotyped as inbred rednecks.
Way to make generalizations.
