I heard on the news the other day, that a 6 week old pit bull puppy bit off a baby's toe or toes while the parents of this baby where in the other room.

For some reason I dont see this being possible. Is this possible? Does a pit bull have teeth when it is 6 weeks?

Can someone please help me out here? I gladly appreciate it.

I am only asking this, because I saw it on the news and they even showed the puppy, but it was so small that I just couldnt believe it. But I guess if the baby was neglected long enough as well as the puppy with out any food or even water, anything is possible.

Yes, a pitbull would have teeth at 6 weeks. And yes it would be possible to chew a baby's toes off since baby's bones are so soft yet. HOWEVER, it would take a very long time to do this so it shows an AMAZING amount of NEGLECT by the parents. This didn't happen in seconds, it took long agonizing minutes for this to happen. The parents are complete MORONS and should be chained to a chair and allowed to have their toes or feet chewed off by lions. The parents had to be on drugs, because from the stories I heard, the neighbors called the cops because they heard the screams of the child going on and on and on.... PATHETIC! I hope they are jailed for life!

The worst part of this is that it was a pitbull. It could just as easily have been a Lab or a Cocker Spaniel or a Scottish Terrier. They all have teeth at that age too. A baby's bones would be softer than a rawhide, so it is entirely possible.

I bred Shar-Pei for years and I also find this hard to believe, as I remember at six weeks the teeth are coming in and are not fully formed, if the puppy was not all there in its skull it might be able to accomplish this. I know for a fact that the news is not always factual. As far as biting off more than one toe the baby should have been doing a lot of screaming by this time and if the parents were in the next room should have been in there in a hurry and besides that at four weeks of age the puppies start to learn to walk, at six weeks of age they are still a little clumsy at walking and running that's why they are so cute and funny. A pit bull can do a lot but I question this one. Years ago I had a pit bull mix and at the age of four months he saved my life and the life of my little Yorkie by fending off two huge dobermans that were ready to attack, he turned into a real good dog and was safe with the Yorkie and the kitty and lasted seventeen years.

Of course there is the possibility. A 6 week old dog in general is still considered a puppy and wants to play. It being the puppy, does not know what is right or wrong as to what is a toy and what is not. If a baby is messing with the dog with its foot and kicking the puppy back and forth, the puppy may think that it is a toy and try to get that toy, being the foot and bit harder then it the puppy should. Everyone just needs to take every precaution possible when babies are around animals in general.

Happy Holidays.

They have milk teeth at that age. To stimulate a momma dog to produce milk a pupie will nibble on a nipple. Baby's toes are about the same size, so yes it happened and they may put the puppy down. I want to know how the hell did the parents sleep thought what happened. The baby should be taken away. Why would they have a puppy that young. It needed at least 2 more weeks with it momma. These a $$hole should never had a baby or a puppy

My husband and I have a 9 week old Black Lab and we have had her for a couple weeks now. Like all puppies they like to play and they don't know when it's too hard to bite. I have to say our puppy well she loves ankles and toes/fingers and I was one evening on the carpet playing with her when she jumped up and bite my nose. She left a hole in my nose, blood and tears let me tell you! Which now is fine now but I know she is a puppy and we are now working on her not biting anymore. It's getting better but it will take sometime. My little one has some powerful teeth!!! At about 7-8 weeks she has new teeth starting to come in we noticed. Right behind the canines ... but what mine likes to do since they are coming in she grabs a toys slender part and kind of rubs the new teeth coming in on it.

I think if i were to just let her chew on my toes and fingers I'd probably lose one. But when it comes to pain it's an automatic reaction to tell them no and scream out in pain. For a baby well you'd probably hear them cry if that but as far as taking a toe off ... well babies are still so fragile! Everyone has their own opinion. I believe it's possible. Then again everyone develops differently that pitbull maybe an early bloomer and his teeth are coming in fast! he may of just needed something to chew on to relieve the pain.

Another thing having a puppy and a baby well I wouldn't leave them two in a room ALONE period. Just cause puppies are puppies they don't know any better. To them a baby is another play toy.

i'm not an expert but it's just what I've dealt with and heard.

Yes, it's possible. Puppies' milkteeth start coming out when they're 3-4 weeks old and by 6 weeks all of them should be fully out, but as many other have said it would have taken some time for the puppy to bite through skin, flesh and bone.

Without knowing more, I would say that the whole incident smells of neglect.

WOW What a surprise, another case of humans neglecting not only their offspring, but their family pet? seriously is anyone surprised by this? The pup prob wasint even a pitbull, the news reporters prob threw that in there to get everyones attention "PIT BULL CHEW OFF BABY"S TOES"..........just pathetic!!!!!!
And for the "lil girl" who commented above on this posting "if you have a pit bill, dont trust it"..............honey get a grip, lose the ignorance and stop polluting other peoples minds about something you know nothing about.

actually this did happen. Puppies have milk teeth at that age, they are very small and very sharp. The adults were not feeding the puppy and obviously neglecting both dog and child. It was a horrible thing that poor child and dog had to have happen.

Even worse people will blame the puppy because it's a pit bull when any puppy could have done that.

It happened but I wonder under what circumstances,
It could have only taken the baby to cry to provoke the puppy.

A friend that breeds show pits had his entire litter in his garage when he was away at work, one of the puppies got its leg stuck in the metal puppy playpin he used and she was yelping in that time the other puppies sensed the fear and weakness and seriously mamed the dogs leg as they attacked it, the puppy now has a home but becasue of the severity of muscle damage will never be able to show and has a permanent limp.
