When you have a cold you seem to have an abundence for flem/snot. Is this stored somewhere in your body or is it progressively generated through your illness?

Phlegm (pronounced "flem") is due to excessive secretions the mucous membranes lining the nose and airways when there is injury from infection or inhaling chemicals. It contains mucus, dead bacteria and white blood cells, and debris from the damaged lining itself, which makes it thick, sticky and green/yellow. So it increases during illness and gets less as the illness is cured.

Phlegm is is produced by the body to help oxygen exchange in the lungs and to keep the lining of your nose/respiratory system moist.
It also helps fight disease - and if it is coloured, shows you are fighting an infection. More is produced when fighting colds etcetera.
Being sticky phlegm also traps dust and other impurities and bacteria before they reach your lungs. Anything that gets into the phlegm in your lungs gets propelled back up your bronchial tubes by little hairs so you can spit it out.
This is why it is such a manky habit to hawk it up on to the pavement - that sort of snot is full of germs.
Snot is very useful stuff.

Sweetie flem is developed in your chest. Try to hark it up as much as possible so it won't build up. The longer you let flem stay in your body the longer you will be sick. Blessings

It comes from mucus secretions that are coming off your chest and the only way out is through your mouth. The snot comes from the mucus membranes in your sinuses due to inflammation.

I know exactly what you mean...the tickle sensation you get all around, but it's not so comforting is it? The tickle from your flem gives you throat the cough reflex which probably makes it tickle from the coughing vibrations.
