The book of Revelations is believed by an enormous number of Christians (numbering millions) as a blow by blow account of the 'End of time'. It all came from one man in a cave who had a dream. That man was John (of Book of who fame) who supposedly wrote Revelations after he fasted in a cave on a Greek Island which is surrounded by magic mushrooms (by coincidence of course). The entire fantasy arose from ONE MAN.

what amazes me is that if someone said today that he had been spoken to by God in a cave, no-one would listen and most would laugh at him. What on earth made it any different in the days gone by?

Most Christians (at least the ones who study theology and know the different types of literature found in the bible) DO NOT believe it to be a blow by blow account of the end of time. It is full of metaphors and pictures or images of what is to come. It isn't to be taken literally, but metaphorically. That is why over the centuries people have thought it is describing their situation and that therefore the End is nigh. Nevertheless, it does contain some good indication that God is going to judge us for what we do and say etc and that there is some sort of reckoning at the end. The letters to the churches in the early chapters are good, and can be used by churches today as a sort of measuring stick of how well we might be doing.
God speaks to people through dreams and visions - if you look atthe book of Daniel in the Old Testament you will see similar images. it could be that John was familiar with this and that that coloured his dream or vision. I dont think it was magic mushrooms, but God.

one ought to answer your question the two way. on the scientific point, who ever wrote Revelations became decrease than the impact of hallucinogenic mushrooms which strongly effected the persons concept, which Psychiatrists consult with as a state of psychosis . even nonetheless Shamans practised divination by Hallucinogenic herbs to "open the doorways of concept" and to circulate into the airy international of the gods. Any prophecy can grow to be actuality if the belief is the muse of extra effective than one faith and shared by making use of thousands and thousands of individuals, hence transforming into a self-professed prophecy, if religious fans in any international locations desire to accomplish the job of starting to be the prophecy a actuality. i think i would be maximum suitable in questioning that the two Christianity and Islam have comparable ideals on the top of days. If those faiths long for the out come of revelations, then they might convey it approximately by making use of their religious zeal, nonetheless the secular international could call it a 0.33 international conflict.

If you seek out and read up on psycho babble of schizophrenic victims, you will get insight into John's mental state. As he was a Jew, he probable developed circumcision induced delusional schizophrenia from delayed PT SD. All those hallucinations are side effects from the resulting brain chemistry malfunctions. It causes our brains to get stuck in a loop trying to sort out the lies from the truth. The hallucinations are our brains giving us signs and symbols to try and correct the problem. His brain told him the only way to stop the phenomenon of MGM is to bring the end of time for humanity. Circumcision is the Apocalypse he was trying to reveal. This is a common side effect from MGM but is much in denial by Creationists as it knocks out the foundation stone of their faith.

The fasting can , by itself, induce a delusional schyzophrenic episode. The mushrooms would be a plus but not a necessity.

You may think John The Revealtor was on something high, He should was, The SPIRIT OF GOD, & you are just about ready to see what John Saw take place just in front of us. And by the time God gets done with you, you will cry for the rocks & mountains to fall on you to hide yourselve from the face of God & he will not be a God of LOVE as too many people tries to make him, he will be a God of Judgement then.
