One of the strangest myths in the bible...
Two "angels" come to Sodom, presumably to see if the city is as evil as it's rumored to be (why doesn't god, who is all knowing, already know how bad it is?). Lot, who's supposed to be a good man, invites them to stay with him...Lot's neighbors, seeing the two "angels" arrive, apparently think they're real men (and attractive ones at that), so they surround his house and try to get them to come out so they can "know" them (bible slang for having sex). Instead of sending out the two "angels," Lot instead offers up his two virgin daughters to the crowd for a wild time, telling them they can do whatever they want to with them. Kinda shows how much respect for women the bible has...
Anyway, after this incident, apparently the angels tell god how bad Sodom is, so he decides to destroy it -- but wants Lot to get out first, so he takes his family and leaves. He's told not to look back at the destruction, but his wife can't resist -- she looks, and is turned into salt.
They get out into the boonies, and Lot's daughters (the two he offered up to the crowd) now decide that with their mother gone, and with no male heir in the family, they need to give their father a son...so they get him drunk and sleep with him.
In summary: god has to send angels that look like men to Sodom to see how bad it is 'cause apparently he doesn't know, Lot offers us his virgin daughters for sex to a large crowd, Lot's wife turns into salt, Lot's daughters get him drunk and sleep with him, both getting pregnant. Miracles, punishments, rape, incest, getting drunk...these are sure "party" chapters :) Really inspiring stuff, don't you think?
Not very realistic, though -- heck I disobey "god's law" all the time, on purpose, thumbing my nose at make-believe god all the time -- and I've never turned into a pillar of salt :)

A great deal. These are two important chapters in the Old Testament that are full of lessons for Christians and they bear further study. First, God does not tolerate sexual immorality in a society. I am not talking about homosexuality alone, but unrestrained sexual misbehavior in general. The incident with Lot and his daughters caused two nation to come out of them Moab and Edom, both of which caused Israel a great deal of trouble. Second, when God give people instructions, he expects them to be obeyed. Lot's wife disobeyed God and she was turned into a pillar of salt---worthlessness. People who do not obey God are worthless to him. Third, in the case of Abraham and his wife, God does not like deceivers. The devil is the great deceiver and those that follow after him will follow him into hell..

19 is talking about Sodom and Gomorrah/ Lot and his family and 20 is talking about Abraham and Sarah, who are the parents of Isaac, now if you will remember, Isaac is the brother of Ishmael, whose mother is Hagar and Isaac and Ishmael were made into two nations, promised to Abraham by God.
