The Linkage going to the transfer case may be jammed with mud or whatever. First check that and if it doesn't work then it is either broken or froze. If it is broken or froze you may have to replace it.
The first thing I would do is to take off the consul and look down to see if the linkage is broken or bent then it won't shift. And if it looks like it is caked up with anything give it a good heavy washing, make sure you get under it by the transfer case and transmission. If it is broken or bent you will have to get it replace. You can get replacement at certain Auto shops but since I don't know your area I can't tell you where to get them from. Good luck.

I'm assuming you have electric shift. If the motor is stuck, and its not an electrical problem, usualy beating the motor with a hammer(make sure the selector is in 4hi) will make the motor work for that last time before you replace the motor. This is a fairly common problem with the ford electronic transfercase.

Ok, I had the same problem last winter. The dealer will tell you to go In reverse like 30 feet the put It back In drive. Your friends may tell you to keep hammering the gas pedal, or you may think Its your switch. If your truck has a switch, which Is like a dash button-your car has an eletric transfer case. Sometimes It acts up. Solution: dis-connect your battery over night, and make sure you leave a switch on, like your headlights.. Its just to drain and juice left In the lines. In the morning, re-connect It and you should be good to go. Good luck.
