It melts the snow, ice, and condensation off the rear window so you can see behind you. It is EXTREMELY ESSENTIAL. And don't think that just because you have a defroster you don't need to scrape ice and snow from the back window.
It is as important to know what's going on behind you when driving as it is to know what's going on in front of you.

Rear defogger clears the back window so you can see behind you... pretty essential

the defogger blows heated or cooled air accross your windshield to removed the fog, caused by the difference in temperatureon the inside and outside of the car. having the defroster is essential when driving in the winter or rain
