We have a 13 year old dog who over the last few months has become blind. However she has only recently started pacing everywhere and we don't understand why? Any suggestions?

What caused your dog's blindness? Was it diabetes, glaucoma, retinal detachment? If you never got a diagnosis, you need to check with a vet. Glaucoma can be painful, and if it was diabetes, you need to make sure she is regulated. Many eye diseases are quite painful so do get your dog to the vet to make sure this isn't a pain reaction.

I have a blind dog who is now 11. He has been blind for about 7 years. At first they have a hard time. Give him time. Take him out and walk with him. Teach him the WHOA command. We use it with ours. He has learned that it means stop and change direction or you are going to hit something. They will run into things less as time goes on. Most will calm down some and learn to listen to you for directions. It takes them time to adjust. Do not worry to much it can be done at any age. My blind guy is a weim and he still gets to hunt very limitedly but he still loves to. He has lots of great days and smoe not so great but over all has adapeted very well and does good. Your pet should be ok but time and patience are key.

Did you take the dog to the vet when it started losing it's vision? Maybe she has some kind of illness that is causing it and the pacing. Possibly a tumor or diabetes. I'd take her to a vet

Perhaps she's bored. When a dog loses its sight you need to be very hands on with him/her and speak alot.

Also it's not unheard of for a dog to become depressed... just make sure you stay with her alot and show her she's loved.

I'd also get her checked by a vet.

Pacing behavior in a dog that age is one of the initial signs of dementia (doggy Alzheimers). You may want to consider putting her down now, as she is losing her quality of life.

Something is wrong and she needs to see a vet, she is in distress and if she recently went blind something caused it.
