God used to depend on a sacrifice to atone from sins.
God then gave us a sacrifice to atone his anger at man for the sin of Adam and Eve.
Now because of the sacrifice, we can again go into the Garden of Eden, eat from the tree of Life, and live forever.
Remember that no Earthly body of Jesus exists.
Because of this, we too will have the chance to inherit a heavenly body as well.
Romans 5:11 (Whole Chapter)
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

There is one answer, which is simply to save mankind. That might be his purpose.
Another answer, might be because he was betrayed for 30 pcs of silver, that could be a cause. Next, people then asked for Jesus' blood inspite of the fact that about a week earlier people welcomed him to their city with palm branches.
Now why was that? Simply jealous pharisees convincing their unthinking flock that Jesus was bad? Were people that fickle and so without backbone as to be so easily swayed?
You look around you, maybe that same attitude is still around. Still so many people just doing what their elders and church leaders tell them to do. How sure are they that they are not crucifying him again?

Jesus was crucified for the sins of mankind so that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. Also because the leaders of the church at the time got mad at him because he said that he was the messiah or the Christ. He also was prophesied to be killed then to rise again in three days which he accomplished.

Jesus was crucified to bear the sins of the world. That was his purpose as a mediator from GOD to suffer humanity's wrong doings or punishment from a just and merciful GOD who has promised us eternal life because of his sacrifice.

Hope

No easy ans. here. But Jesus was exposing the Jewish Leaders who were in a high comfort zone with the Romans, and he was upsetting their applecart. He about that time said among other things that the Jewish people were strewn and thrown about as those without a Sheppard (leader). He got on their nerves concerning other things pertaining to care and lack of leadership on their part too. They fixed the circumstances of having the reluctant Romans use their law to put him to death.NOTE-- Not many years later the Romans suceeded under orders in killing off I think it was approx. two million Jews in Jerusalem.Incidentally they were warned about this by Jesus himself.EDIT---Unbelieva just above me here has part of the over all answer.

During the the time of the old testament god required a sacrifice for atonement of sin. If you remember in the bible Issac was an only son and to test his faith God told his father he must sacrifice his son. In faith his father laid his son on the alter and God saw his faith was great and provided a lamb for sacrifice in place of Issac.
Then God decided there should be no more animal sacrifices and brought Jesus his only begotten son into the world. Jesus was born to eventually make the biggest sacrifice of all. Jesus was crucified for his blood to cover all of mankind's sins. This was his total purpose in life. The greatest sacrifice of all to cover all of man's sin. The "LAMB OF GOD"!!!!!!

Because God loves us so much He sent Jesus to the cross to die for our sins. Just imagine, every one in the world. All the sin in the world today. That's why God sent Jesus, and because He loves us so much. Everyone in the world was all on His mind. Not just at the time of Christ, but also every who lives now and everyone who will come to life he died for. We are who he died for. We should be thankful that God did that.

To pay for our sin nature inherited from Adam. God requires the shedding of innocent blood to atone for sin. Because human beings are his highest creation, it takes a higher being to atone for our sin. Only the Son of God could meet this qualification; therefore, he came to earth as the Man-God Jesus to die in the flesh. Man cannot atone for his own sin, but Jesus could because he is both man and God, a man without sin. He was the perfect sacrifice. Jesus is God because he is a member of the Trinity and all members of the trinity are co-equal, in that they all agree as one. Keep a copy of the answer for future reference because people will ask you the same question and you will have a ready answer for them. God bless you and thank you for your question.

Actually that's a very good question.
It even had the Roman's confused, remember that the Roman Governor of Judea couldn't find a crime against this man and so symbolically washed his hands of the matter.
The Jews and Pharisees though insisted that he be killed because he broke their laws....
The Romans therefore had him whipped rather severely to satisfy them....but it wasn't enough for them...so they cried out for his death.
Jesus died because of a Roman Governor's lack of guts to enforce Roman Law.
