Just don't pressure him to do anything. Include him to spend time with your family (if you are going to) and spend as much time with him as possible.

I am in the same situation your husband is in. Both my parents died when I was pretty young. Holidays can definately be a very depressing time. Really the only thing you can do is spend lots of quality time with him and offer you all the love and support you possibly can. Dont pressure him to do anything he does not want to do, but try to keep him occupied and happy as much as you can. Noone can or will ever be able to replace our parents, but having other friends and family around on the holidays often helps cheer me up and keep me from thinking about my parents as much. Good luck to both of you and Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year!

Why don't you just ask him? All you have to say, is Honey how do you feel about the holidays? Why is it so hard for people who are supposed to love each other to be able to talk.
He's the only one who knows the answer to that question.
Goodluck

Just show him all your love. That would be enough.
