There is no specific weight in grams. A "Cup" is a volume measure for many different types of things that all have different weights. 1 cup of flour weighs differently than 1 cup of milk. What throws off most people is that there is a weight measurement for ozs. and a volume measurment for ozs. 1 cup is 8 oz. in volume but not neccessarily 8 ozs. in weight.

It varies depending on what you're measuring, because a 'cup' is a measurement of volume. You can get devices from kitchen shops that show you the measurement in cups, grams, and even the old imperial measures for all the standard kitchen ingredients - I've got one made by Tala (don't know if they're still in business) and it's very useful.

Hope that helps.

A cup is a volume measurement and a gram is a mass measurement. Assuming the density of water (1 gram per mililiter), then you can calculate the conversion. One ounce = 29.57 mL. There are 8 ounces in a cup. therefore, 8 ounces = 236.56 mL or 236.56 grams of water.

8 OZ EQUALS 1 CUP 250 mill grams equals this in dry measuring. there is 2.2 pounds in 1 liter or 1000 mill grams. Liquid weight is different then dry weight it would be easer to answer this question if I knew what you were weighing

In grams, one American cup = 228g. That's roughly speaking. The exact measurement is 227.6g.
In fluid ounces, one US cup = 8 fl oz.

A little added (perhaps unwanted.....?) information - one British cup = 1¼ US cups.

Hope this helps!

As many others have said, American "cup" sizes measure things by VOLUME rather than weight. So it'd be one weight for flour, another for brown sugar, another for white sugar, another for chopped ham, yet another weight for stock, etc etc etc.

The best way to do it by far is to get hold of a set (from Lakeland and other good cookshops).

One cup is volume, or 240 ml.

The weight of whatever it is in grams depends upon, well, whatever it is. Milk weighs more than water, brown sugar weighs more than flour.

Approximately 7 ozs or 240grms. But if you are using an american cookbook check the index at both front and back of book as they often give you the european equivalent of weights and measures.

You can buy american-style cup measurements for U.S recipes. I believe Nigella Lawson sells the expensive ones but there are sets of cheaper 'cup' measures available too.

I believe "cups" have to be converted to mililiters, because a cup is a volume measurement. Anyways 1 U.S. cup equals 250ml
