You shouldn't assume that all overweight people are overweight because they eat too much or don't exercise enough. There are many factors involved that are much more credible. For example, heart problems can lead to a doctor restricting activity, decreasing metabolism, and without eating an ounce more food than before the heart condition, the weight will pile on. Many medications for serious medical conditions cause weight gain. Thyroid disorders can cause a dramatic increase in weight.

We eat food that fill our desire for food.
As we get older, out metabolism slows down, but we still continue to eat the same amount of food when we were younger. So that extra food is converted into fat.
To loose weight we have to get the metabolism back up again; aerobics, keep the body flexible so we can do exercises; stretching, and make everything tighten up again; weightlifting.

They eat way too much and do not get enough exercise. Some do have health problems but the vast majority just get sort of lazy and prefer the food over the work.
