Once you have assembled the stretchers, Tack the top center of the painting to the outside edge of the top stretcher. Do the same at the bottom gently pulling the painting to get rid of any slack. Then tack down both top and bottom getting close to the corners. Do the same on either side. The corners get folded down neatly and tacked. Make sure there is a little hangover along the top, bottom and sides so that you can frame the work.
To frame the work, lay the frame face down and place the stretched canvas inside. Tack the "hangover" to the inside of the frame. Now it is ready for the wire and to hang up in a prominent well-lit plance for everyone to see

I wouldn't recommend stretching a finished painting. You will damage it though you may not see evident cracks or damage when you do it. Most times a painting will relax when off the stretchers to the point where it will not fit back onto stretchers of the same size it came off of. Putting that kind of stress back on a finished painting is not good for the paint film.
I suggest you mount it onto board instead. Get a wooden panel and apply a size to it (either hide glue or acrylic gesso) on both sides, then adhere the canvas to the panel with hide glue or acrylic gesso or acrylic medium (which acts like a glue). Fold the excess canvas over the back of the panel and glue down. You can then frame it as usual.

I have the same problem, I think we have to take to a specialist. You have to make a frame the size of inner painting and fold over edges at top and tack, doing the same at bottom, then move onto the sides, but unless you know what you are doing, I give it a miss.

It is pretty easy.
Get a frame that is the same size as the old one was. than start to sta[ple it in the middle of one side (make shure the frame is square after youput it together, or order one that is already pre made.) than go to the opposite side and do the same. go to the side next to this one staple it in the middle and go to the opposite side. In this fassion make your way to the ends of each side. make shure you are pulling the painting tight every time you put a staple in.
good luck
