Patients with allergic, bronchial, or cardiac asthma are unable to lie flat as this increases the congestion of the lungs and so increases the dyspnoea (difficulty in, or laboured breathing). A bed-table on which the patient can lean is very useful. In many cases, however, the patient prefers to sit up in a chair so as to avoid the slipping down which may occur in bed. In addition, special beds to keep the patient well propped up in a sitting position are available.
You may have allergic asthma. The most common allergens include pollen, food, drugs, bacteria and house dust. However, some people have allergic reactions to cold, heat, light, and even emotional stress.
Please consult a physician for chest diseases.
