Addiction is tricky, change has to come from the person who has the problem. If you think that telling them about health problems will help, drinking a lot causes many health problems, especially with the liver and kidneys as well and heart and blood pressure problems. It also has been proven to increase risk of certain cancers. AA is good for the person with the problem, Al Anon is the name of an organization that helps support the friends and family of alcoholics.

There are many health problems associated with alcoholism, many of them liver related. Your friend needs to seek help from professionals, that would be the best way, but he/she needs to recognize the problem and want to stop.

The only advise you can give is to tell them they need to go to Alcoholics Anonymous, In some cases people need to be hospitalized to deal with the effects of withdrawal. You can also find out more for yourself at al-anon, which is for family and friends of alcoholics.
