i was not forced to go to church as child because my mother was. My mom also hated going to church, and she believed that the catholic church, and the people that went were hipocrits. Believing that they can do whatever they want and just ask for forgivness of their sins. She did not believe that it was wrong to have premarital sex, or to live with someone before you are married. Those were just some of the things that i remember she told me. So she did not go to church as an adult, and did not make us to go either. We went to church with my extended family a few times, just to see what it was like, and if we wanted to join, but non of us kids did. We grew up believing in God on our own, and finding out own beliefs. And i am happy with my mom's choice.

I was made to go to church as a kid. I went less when I started driving. And now I go infrequently, unless there is a church with a good night service. I am not resentful at all. Even though I don't attend nearly as often, I have continued to grow in faith. Eventually, I would like to settle into a church, but I keep moving to different parts of the country.

Yes, I was forced to go to church as a youngster. At the time I did not like it and did everything that I could think of to get out of attending church services.
I am grown up now,and understand why I was being forced.
I now have a personal relationship with my God (Jesus) and am thankful to Him... and my parents that assumed guardionship over my physical as well as spiritual being.
I will now very gently "thump" the bible just once to validate my story.
Proverbs 22:6
"Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it".
ps: Parents that choose not to enforce spiritual guidance are also training their children.

I was forced to go to church 5 times a week, every week, for about 18 years. Yes I did resent it. It was a small town fundamentalist christian church. I cant begin to describe how much I resented it.

I had to go 6 days a week for 8 years. The only way you can get me into church now is for a wedding or a funeral.
Just too much of a not so good thing.
Love and blessings Don

I think the word "forced" is a bit misleading.
When you were young, a child, and your family
went to church often, than that is what you did
as a family unit. No one forced you unless you
resisted and they tied you up and locked you in
the trunk of the car and made you sit in church.
Did they beat you if you did not want to go?
That is what I would call "forced".
Now, that you are an adult you can choose
what you want to do.
Don't blame your parent for trying to be good parents.

Nope. I remember times I did not want to go and others where I have great memories....I also went through a time when I was younger that I backslid a bit....as I have traveled the world and talked in front of many audiences....my faith is strong.
Young people always seem to think that their ideas and feelings are new and never been experienced by others before them....read what is on here.....believe me nothing is new...it has been around as long as people have....

I am a Methodist.
So we only attended services on Sundays.
And no, I enjoyed going to Sunday School.
And I also went every Sunday as I got older.
I haven't gone in awhile, because I just moved.
But I plan on attending as soon as we get settled and I find a church.
I feel forcing your child to go is a little extreme.
I will take my daughter once or twice and see what she thinks, if she likes it them she can go.
If not, then I'm not going to force her.

Yeah we had to go to church every single Sunday - my parents are both pastors so it was a given that we all went. During Lent we had to go to church on Wednesdays also. And don't gorget that Good Friday service.
No I don't resent it.

I think most kids were "forced" to attend church, especially catholics.. I was brought up cath.. no longer am though.. As an adult you can make your own choices.. as a child your parents bring you up their way.. No reason to resent it..
