It really depends on where you sending your dog. Every country has different standards. The US doesn't make you quarantine a dog. Some countries that have eradicated rabies, make you quarantine your dog for up to 30 days in a quarantine facility. Sometimes a little leg work prior such as getting a vet that has been approved through that country's certification system, to vaccinate and sign off will allow your animal to not be quarantined so long. But no, they don't normally stay at teh aiport. It's normally a government owned quarantine facility. Depending on how long of a flight it is, they may make your dog spend a night at an inbetween airport to break up the amount of time they are in the belly of the plane. Airplane travel is extremely stressful for animals. If you can avoid it, you should.

I think that they have to be put in a kennel and they stay under the plane with the checked luggage or something like that!

they go in a cage in the plane (not with you) and depending on the country, they may be quarantined for up to 6mths ..
its quite traumatising on the animal because they may need to be injected to sleep (temporary) so they dont get anxious during the trip

its really sad :(

I chose to leave my pet with family because i did not want to put him through that
