When I get my braces off I will be 14. I wanted to get my teeth bleached. Is this to young to be done? Also how much does this cost?

If you have all of your adult teeth, you're not too young to have them whitened. The type of whitening you have done will determine the cost. If your dentist does it in the office, it may cost between $600-$700 and take around an hour or two. This is the whitest that your teeth can possibly get, and is the type they use on that Extreme Makeovers show. Your dentist could also make you custom-fitted bleaching trays which you will fill with gel every day for a couple of weeks. This method can cost between $200-$400 depending on where you live. Finally, you can use the over-the-counter whitening treatments like Crest White Strips, etc. These methods costs between $20-$100, take the longest, and provide the least desirable results...but they WILL whiten your teeth some. The most common adverse effect from whitening is tooth pain/sensitivity. Be sure to use a sensitivity toothpaste before, during, and after your treatments to decrease the chances of having sensitive teeth. Also, don't expect dental insurance to pay anything for your whitening. It is a cosmetic procedure and is not covered. Congratulations on getting your braces off!

At the age of 14 the pulp (nerve) in your teeth is quite large. As you get older it will recede away and become less sensitive.
I think you'll find that bleaching will be too painful at your age.
Also, your gumline is not stable at this age, and also has some time before it stablises at a higher position i.e. exposing more tooth. There is a risk that bleaching at this age will mean that when you're older and the gum has receded more, then you'll be showing the part oif the tooth near the gumline that wasn't exposed to the bleach at 14yo, and therefore will be a darker colour.
Wait till you're 18 minimum.

When you're as young as 14, teeth whitening procedures won't do much because your teeth haven't been around long enough to have any major damage.

If you really want to whiten your teeth after braces, try some Crest Whitening Strips.
