he is scratching and chewing on himself he is loseing a little hair where he chews..the is no fleasrash or anything like that??? what can it be

It could be allergies! What are you feeding him? If you are feeding him a cheap store brand dog food like Ol' Roy, beneful, Kibbles and Bits, etc - then I'd suggest that you switch! Try Eukanuba, Iams, or Purina Pro Plan - any of them are good but Eukanuba and Iams are the best.

sounds as if the dog has allergies. Flea bites and food is the most common allergies to a dog. It also could be hot spots take the dog to the vet to try and determine the cause.

My saint bernard did this and it was flea bites, my sheltie did this and it was food allergies. A good quality dog food without corn as an ingrediant will cure food allergies.
canidae, wellness, solid gold, california natural, innova are few of the good quality all natural dog foods that are good quality for the dog.

This time of year, my guess would be dry skin. A lot of dogs have this problem.
