a good wine is any wine you like you dont gulp it because your sour taste buds are at the back of your tongue thats why we gulp beer,,,,you roll the wine around in your mouth so all your taste buds get to sample the wine...the range of flavours will become more evident to you if you can tell there is a good range of flavours then its a good wine

Like most things that have a reputation for being elitist there is much too much crap about good wines. If you like the TASTE its a good wine. Each person tastes things differently and as we age so do our taste receptors so a good wine to a curry eating 18 year old is different to a good wine for a 60 year old epicure.
To savour a good wine let it reach the right temperature (room temperature for red, chilled for white). Smell it first, the smell alters everything we taste not just wine. Then sip some, hold it in the mouth to allow the taste to reach everywhere on your tongue. Then make a decision if you like it its good if not then its not. Check the cork before you taste, sometimes they can spoil and ruin the wine, you'll know if it's off because the cork can have a growth on it and the wine tastes really mouldy.
On a in depth level many things can alter the quality of a wine. The type of grape, the type of soil, amount of sun in a year will alter the amount of sugar in a grape, the time it's harvested, the type and age of barrels it is matured in etc. But as a rule of thumb in a very sunny year, with a good well known grape, from an established vineyard will produce a good wine ( hopefully) :-)

A good wine is whatever wine you enjoy drinking. This is a personal choice and I have found that judgments about wine change over time.
Check out this site with instructions and pictures on how to taste (savour) wine: http://www.cheers2wine.com/wine-tasting.html

Hi, all i do is role it around my mouth and then swollow it then you will get all the flavour. I cant really say what is a good wine as everyone has different tastes. But for me, I dont like it too sweet or too dry and i like it quite strong. Some wines are really smooth and sickly. I would nessacary recommend an expensive wine either as i find sometimes i dont like them. Me and my fiancee went for a meal and we got a bottle of Ernest and juilo , Galio sierra vally white wine or something like that and it was lovely. As my fiancee doesnt really like wine much. I think i have converted him to wine. So were going to get a bottle for xmas. And its not to expensive either.

you sniff it, roll it around your mouth, say something about it being a lovely woody number with a hint of shoe polish and cardboard undertones then you swiftly disappear up your own a***
