You need to download and install drivers for your sound card. Depends on which sound card you are using. If you know the name and model of your sound card, then you can just search for the drivers using Google or Yahoo...
If you got some CDs with your computer, check in them, maybe you will find the drivers there.

The situation could have arisen as a result of several things. First you need to be sure your speakers are functional and properly connected. If you're so sure of that and still no sound then it's likely to be a driver problem. If you know the manufacturers of your motherboard (which is expected, anyway), go to their site and ask to download the correct driver. But before you take that step, be sure to confirm that you (or someone else) has not tinkered with any settings on the system. Good luck.

I probably belive that your sound card driver is not installed. I device driver is a software that enables hardware to interact with the OS. If you have motherboard CD you probably have the software try to install the software works fine. If you don't know what sound card you have and you don't have any cd then try to download Knoppix CD/DVD from http://www.knoppix.net/get.php and play that once you burn the CD/DVD and start your computer (By changing the BIOS boot option) see if the computer plays sound. If not let me know

First find the brand of your speakers that are hooked up to your computer. Once you find the brand go online-internet and look for the sound card that you need to have your speakers running. If not go to a computer place and ask questions.

1st of all check whether there is a sound card in your system.
2nd, check the jack at the back of CPU whether inserted in correct socket, (if not try in other available sockets),
If the above are okay, then Install sound forge software.
