Its about unity/community before our God. Galatians 3:28, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

The Our Father Prayer is what Jesus told us how to pray. If you try to see it, the prayer it teaches us how to give adoration to the father, then next the confession, then thanksgiving for the forgiveness of our sins, and for all the things God have done into our life. Then the supplication in which we ask the guidance, the power from God and all the things we needed in prayer we ask and all this things shall given unto us in His time. Holding is like all the prayer that is bound on earth is also bound in heaven and it is more powerful for we pray in unison to our living God.

It's a cutsy thing started 30 years or so ago. Not my style of worship. The same with sticking your hand in the air. Sort of a show of piety to me, so I don't do it.

Don`t do it myself but I suppose it is to show togetherness as children of God, and delight that God is Father.
