She's five months old now, and I'm starting to have difficulty making her eat her puppy food. I'm thinking she's growing up, but then again maybe she's just tired of eating the same thing over and over...

By 'having difficulty', I mean that she can go for more than 18 hours without eating. Hunger isn't the issue here.

We Have been breeding and showing Beagles for a long time, and this is what we have found works best.
We start the weaning process @ 4 weeks, having them completely weaned @ 5 weeks. At that time we open one 5 # bag of puppy food per puppy. The puppy will remain on that one bag of food until it is gone. At that time we switch the puppy's to adult food. What we have found is that by keeping a puppy on puppy food longer than just the one bag is that they look like they are doing beautifully for about the first six months, but then structurally fall apart. By placing the pup on adult food early the puppy will develop a little more slowly, but will have far better structure as an adult.

Here is a pic of one of our Beagles so that you can see what we strive for.

Let your puppy get adjusted to your house. Also, my dog is picky about what he eats - he will only eat a certain brand of dog food, he hates most of them and won't eat them. If your dog won't eat in a few days, take her to the vet, I have a trick for getting your puppy to go outside, also. Hang a tiny bell on your door handle with string or whatever. Just a tiny little bell you can get at craft stores and such. Take some peanut butter and rub it on the bell, so when your puppy is just standing at the door, she will start licking the bell, and she will hear the noise, and will associate the noise with going outside and such. DO NOT keep putting PB on the bell when she gets the hang of it. So everytime she's standing at the back door, she will paw the bell or lick it, or something. Hope this works, it's worked with all my dogs! :D

You should wait to make the switch until she's much closer to a year. Beagles tend to put on too much weight, so be careful you're not trying to over-feed her - she'll eat if she's hungry.

Read the label on the dog food, It will say when it's time for adult food, Perhaps the pup just hates what you are feeding him. Perhaps he's just not hungry at the time you are *Making him eat. I hope he's not getting any junk human food..
