I am a Christian - I am looking for other people's opinion:-) I am very closed-minded; I believe that men cannot get to heaven on their own, due to lack of ability to follow God's commandments. However, I am not judgemental, so please... Answer away! Thanks for being honest!

Good question. It wouldn't be so much is man powerful enough, it's is man righteous enough. The Bible tells us without holiness no man shall see God.
Paul makes it clear in Romans that all have sinned. Even our own life will make it clear to us that we have sinned, we have broken God's laws, we have disobeyed. Think of it like a courtroom setting. We are the accused. How well have we been in keeping God's Word? If we're honest, we have to admit that we come up short. If there were no sin, yes man could enter on his own, but because of sin, we need help. That's where Christ comes in.
Jesus lived eternally in the beginning, and became a man. Being the Son of God he was sinless, being the son of Mary he was mortal. For 33 years he lived in complete obediance to God's Word. He died sinless. He rose again and has provided us the way to heaven, not on our merits, but on his.

Following God's commandments will not get you into heaven. Just think about John 3:16. It says, .."whoever believes in Him will have eternal life", not, ...whoever believes in Him and obeys the commandments will have eternal life. Although trying to follow the commanments is a grea way to try and conduct your life it is not how we enter heaven. Jesus said that no one enters the gates of heaven but through Him. The commandments were relevant in the old testament but now only show us how bad we really are and that we are unable to get into heaven on our own. They are the yardstick by which we can measure our own depravity. You are right when you say, "Men can not get to heaven on their own" that is why God sent His son.

i am so so glad to hear that you are a christian. but being a christian means believing in god and believing in god means believing in heaven so why would you want to assume when you already know for 100 percent that there is a heaven, and you are right no man can get to heaven on his or her own but only through jesus our lord and savior who died on the cross for all of us to free us from our sins and for us to live eternity with him in heaven. but you already knew all of that, so do not ever ever ever let anyone tell you differently. so now go spread the word and let everyone else know that to is part of your duty of being a christian. I love chocolate cake.. So I see my life as one.. You know when you bake such a treat you put in alot of really good things. Flour, milk, shortening, coco, sugar, and eggs. What is only one of those eggs was rotten? You still have a lot of other really good thing in there. Would you eat it? Would you even want it sitting on your counter? Thought not.. This is what we do with our lives. We put in a lot of really good things, love, kindness, charity, good deeds. But we add maybe a lie or two, maybe a lustful thought. Anyway we stir this up bake it for 70 years or so then present it to God.. Do you want it? Why would He take it as something worth while? Stinky!!!! This is why we have to receive the righteousness of Christ, our is lets say less than desirable!!! Jim

I agree that man can never reach Heaven on his own. That's why Jesus came and died for us so that He paid the price for our sins and we would have the oppurtunity to go to Heaven. There is no man ever (except for Jesus of course) that is or was or ever will be perfect so no one could get into Heaven without Jesus.

No man cannot get there alone. He must first believe that Jesus died on that cross at Calvary and rose again on the third day. This is Faith which gives us hope which helps us to love our fellow man. We need Jesus as our mediator to God to get there.
