I heard a man talking about this.

In the beginning of Islam, there were three followers: Mohammed, his first wife, and some dude (can't remember his name).

They were the miniority in Mecca and that was in the beginning of Surah 2 (I think), "there shall be no compulsion in religion".

But as Mohammed and his followers became the majority it was "Kill the infidel where ever you find him. Make the chrisitians and the jews convert and pay a tax". (rough paraphrase sorry).

Some people say that's because of defense, but honestly. That completely contradicts the previous statement. But it's all within the same Surah.

I think this "no compulsion in religion" thing is nothing more than a Trojan Horse.

The crusades were a big part of why the west isn't muslim.

Look at places like Armenian where some 2 million christians were slaughtered.

Islam can not be forced on someone. However, Muslims do teach Islam to others; we don't force it. Other religions also do teach about their religion. I mean seriously, how can a religion be forced. You can be taught but nobody is changing what you really think except yourself because you decide whether you want to be of that religion. The people who teach aren't deciding for you.

There are several religions that proseltize to others. The big three are Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism. At times, followers of all these religions have behaved pretty badly, using violence and political pressure to convert new followers.

Other religions, such as Judaism and Hinduism are not nearly as "evangelical" about finding new followers, although there are exceptions, such as the Kabbalah and Hare Krishna movements.

ANd for the record, Muslims have historically considered Jews and Christians (and Zoroastrians, I think) as "People of the Book" and granted them more rights than people of other faiths.

I do not know where you get this idea. I have many Muslim friends and not once did they try to force their beliefs on me. Now i cannot say that for a lot of other religions: Jehovah Witnesses who ring my doorbell at 9 on Sunday morning is one very good example!
I will even put it more strongly: I have a great interest in Islam and are considering to convert. Not ONCE did ANY of my Muslim friends 'feed' me with their religion, even after i made it known. They just told me they were happy that i was doing my research and that hopefully, i would decide to convert and that i was always more than welcome to ask them any questions i had.
This made me feel even more secure and warm!

By the way, i am not forcing Islam on you, i am just trying to tell you that Islam isnt a terror religion. Some Muslims act corruptly because of their lack of knowledge.

Other religions often do try to force theirs. Christianity has a long history of forced conversions. Just study about the Crusades in Europe. Anyone not Christian was persecuted. Also, Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses routinely go door to door to try to persuade people to follow their religions.

But not everyone in those religions does it. Only the more extreme members, I find. Most are quite nice, respectful people who respect other people's choice in religion, including Islamic people!

I'm sure, u haven't read about this religion well
actually it doesn't force anyone to be a muslim. if it is, why there is still non muslims all over the world?
if u know the holy Quraan (the holy book sent from God to his prophet Muhammed) says no forcing in religion , the good and bad is obvious
also the prophet Muhammed treated the non muslims very well in his life and ordered the muslims not to harm any non muslim unless the non muslim started hurting.

(sorry if i couldn't translate what the god exactly says in the book)

That was Mohammad's dream that the whole world be Muslim. If everyone is Muslim there will world wide peace, but the evidence of this is the opposite, we can see this in Iraq and every where in the middle east, Muslims killing Muslims. This is no big deal cause Christians do the same in Ireland Catholics and Protestants.

Who told you that?

Islam clearly teaches there shall be no compulsion in religion.

My dear, that is exactly the reason why when Islam conquered Spain, there were enough Christians to drive Muslims out.

Again, it is exactly the sheltering allitude of Muslims that made Jews to return to middle east during their persecution in Christian west, and now trying to take the homelands from the Arabs.

Islam is viewed suspiciously and dangerously, why?
Because it is growing fast, which is hard for anyone of the other religion to digest.
