yes it's common courtesy as older people find it harder to stand for long periods of time.

Absolutely. Or an elderly man. Or someone holding a child or a heavy load. Any one who looks like they would need the chair more than me.

Absolutely. Or for an old man. Or for a pregnant woman. Or for someone who's trying to carry a child or a ton of packages, or who just looks like they need to sit down more than I do.

I have always done that for old people. Now that I'm six months pregnant, I don't feel very much like standing, but most elderly people around (especially men) are usually quite insistent - if you don't jump up when they show up, they start talking really rudely at you, even after I've stood up and they are already comfortably seated, they would keep grumbling about 'young generation showing no respect'... *sigh*

Yes. They have been around more than I have. I hope that when I am old and I need to sit, that some younger person will at least offer me a seat whether I need to sit or not. Kindness goes a long way. :)

to give up your chair for an older person, someone holding a baby, or an handicap person is the right and moral thing to do. YES I would.

A senior, man or woman, a woman with kids/baby, someone disabled, someone who has a bunch of packages.

Of course. It's called showing respect for your elders and is something we all need to teach our children more of.
