Like the others say they will still be able to do it - it's just inside that the ban will be. I've seen it alot here in Ireland where there is a ban - even seen a few smoking in their cars.
Don't know if it will change for people in custody. Over here you can smoke in prison but not in the stations. Last time I was in teh cells overnight I got taken out into the cage for a smoke - they allowed it because you behaved yourself. Had to smoke with the cuffs on though.

Outside the station is not a problem, it's still going to be allowed in outdoors. Inside the station yard, who knows, but I'm a police officer and I'm foreseeing riots in the cells when I inform the prisoners that they can't go out into the caged area of the yard for a cigarette.
Some prisoners can be in the cells for a whole weekend waiting to go to court... stressful enough, without being denied a smoke.
Also, imagine you're a police officer, you've just had to break up a fight, use your baton and wrestle offenders to the ground...not your "typical day at the office" is it? Surely those officers who smoke deserve a ciggy to help calm them down after that?

You can commit a public order offence inside a police station so I presume that makes a police station a 'public place'. You definitely cannot smoke in any police station in Hampshire (not sure about other counties but expect them to be the same). There is always a 'smokers corner' in the backyard though! I imagine if it is secluded from public view, they will still be allowed to do it. Sorry!

Outside any public building will not be banned. The only place I Know that will be exempt is The Houses of Parliament. Apparently, to ban smoking there would take a seperate act of Parliament for some reason.

specific i will, have you ever heard the previous asserting, in case you do not have faith in something you will fall for something. did you recognize that maximum inmates in reformatory beleive in no longer something. law enforcement officials see this each and all of the time, very few people who're religious in any respect are in reformatory, so whilst somebody won't lay a hand on the Bible this will strengthen a crimson flag, your son became harmless yet being a police officer is a adverse activity and that they circulate alot by making use of the numbers, the possibilities are whilst so one won't try this they are to blame. attempt to place your self in the regulations footwear, those men placed it on the line customary for our protection. they have families, young ones, grandskids, wifes and girlfriends, and that they want them to be secure in simple terms such as you like your loved ones to be secure, in the event that they made a mistake on the being precautious part attempt to understand that. they have a tricky activity!!

Hi,
My father is an ex policeman and he tells me that the police have to obey the same laws as everyone else. BUT there are some who'd like to think they didn't.
If they do continue to smoke than I would telephone their superintendent and report it. I've done this once when I saw a police car running red lights and he didn't have his lights or siren going. I found out later the the officer in question lost his police license.
If we have to obey this law then so do they. Do what you think is best. Report them if they continue to smoke. I would and so would my retired dad.
Good luck

why do you think that police are any different from an ordinary houseowner smoking at the back of their house? It is only illegal to smoke in public places.just because thir police they still have to abide by the law - and have to do so more than the public do!

In some states, a police officer/emt/firefighter will be fired for smoking even if at home, because of health risks of smoking and their job performance, massachussetts is one of them.
