Firstly I wanna congratulate you..australia is a great destination (been there twice myself and loved it)...I think you should be able to get a student visa but I am not so sure how long for...alternatively you could decide to marry an Auzzie!!!
Anyway...the best of luck!!!

Katze, you should wait until you have turned 18, then you can take advantage of the Australian Working Holiday Programme. This is the easiest way for young people to work in Australia.
Open for 18-30 year olds from eligible countries (those with reciprocal working holiday programmes with Australia) such as the UK, Ireland, France, Germany etc...it gives you the right to travel in the country and employment for up to six months with one employer is allowed. The best thing is you can work in any occupation, not just bar work, fruit picking.
Now if you do work in seasonal employment in regional Australia for three months, which basically means you work in agriculture in some form or other, you can apply for a second working holiday visa, giving you two years in Australia should you wish.
I went on one using the Australian Visa Bureau's working holiday package. Just like the message above, got a SIM card, job assistance, free accommodation, bank accounts, tax number etc and now they are offering a free Blue Mountain tour.
See http://www.visabureau.com/australia/working-holiday-visa.aspx for more info.

Yet again a question regarding entry into Australia when ALL of the information is to be found on their website at:
www.immigration.gov.au/index.htm
There is a specific "young persons temporary working visa" available to, I believe those under 30yrs. It is designed to enable "young people" to visit Australia and work while they are here. It is, I believe, valid for 13 months from arrival, and work is limited (in theory at least) to 3 months with any one employer.
Visit the website or telephone the embassy - its all there.
You may have a problem being under 18, but I don't have any specific knowledge on that.

Phone the Australian Embassay in Manchester or London for an application. Working holiday visa for under 30's is now valid for 24 months. Costs about £75. (You might need to be over 18)
Good luck - you'll have a fantastic time
