1. Keep a journal of what you eat and when you eat it. Also note how you felt before you ate it (sad, hungry, not hungry, happy, etc.) and how you felt after you ate it.

2. Find some other treats that you can satisfy your emotions with. A bubble bath, sitting in the warm sun, shopping, a massage, a quiet night to yourself, etc. Those are some crappy suggestions, but I'm sure you can find something that YOU like. ^_-

Well first you have to want to control it. So quit keep sweets in the house, or anything that you like to eat when you get into that emotional eating. You need to go for a walk or a movie, or talk to someone on the phone about what is bugging you. So you will not keep eating, each time you get really emotional about something. You need to try to find something else that can be as good as always eating. If you can't do this by your self then go to the professionals, and let them help. Cause as you proably already know that this can be a serious problem. So if you really want to stop this behavior then you already know what you need to do, and that is talk to some one about this problem, and seek the help you need to quit that emotional eating.

I used to have problems eating bags of junk food and chips and cookies. Now I don't keep them in the house so I don't eat them. It might cost more to buy a $2 dessert when I am out than a $2.50 half gallon of ice cream for the week but it will pay off in the future. And because I don't like to cook I buy frozen microwave and oven meals at the health food store. Again it might be more expensive but at least I won't have to pay $100,000 for open heart surgery.



Overeating, anoerxia, purging, all this disorders are not about the food but more so ways of coping with emotional pain and/or untreated mental illness. I go to an herbal holistic doctor and I do what's called the poor man's therapist- I cry on a microcassette tape recorder. I have used up maybe 50 tapes or so but this really helps me vent and get out my emotional distress without paying a therapist $100 an hour.

Eating and depression. With Compulsive Overeating food is used as a coping mechanism to deal with uncomfortable feelings. Many Compulsive Overeaters speak of using the Compulsive Overeating episodes as a way to numb all that is going on around them. The amount of food eaten and duration can vary greatly for a Compulsive Overeater.
For many individuals suffering from Compulsive Overeating, binges may not be able to be broken into specific episodes but rather days where the individual eats more than normal throughout the day. Triggers for Compulsive Overeating include depression, anxiety, interpersonal stressors, boredom, prolonged dieting, and body image dissatisfaction.
Compulsive Overeating may temporarily relieve the stress of these unwanted feelings, but for the Compulsive Overeater the overeating episodes are unfortunately followed by feelings of guilt, shame, disgust, and further depression. For the Compulsive Overeater, episodes of Compulsive Overeating usually occur in secret and any evidence is often hidden from others.
It is not uncommon for Compulsive Overeaters to eat normally or even restrictively in front of others and then make up for eating less by Compulsively Overeating in private at a later time. Compulsive Overeating late at night, when others are asleep or frequenting fast food restaurants and convenience stores alone, can also be common. Many Compulsive Overeaters even have a secret stash of junk food hidden for their personal use.
Similar to Anorexics and Bulimics, Compulsive Overeaters are constantly struggling and unhappy with their weight. With Compulsive Overeating, the number read on the scale often determines how the Compulsive Overeater feels about themself. Constant dieting and restricting food becomes a way of life for the Compulsive Overeater.

each time you want to snack - drink a glass of water instead. Water has almost 0 calroies and it fills you up instantly. Do this a few more times, you'll be running to the loo a fair bit and that will put you off from eating/snacking altogether.

boy you got this one right...when you are depressed and feel abandoned, nothing is better than food for a best friend...I have been so guilty of this, and it is a vicious circle...you eat to feel better, then when you step on the scales, you feel a whole lot worse...I just made up my mind, that when I get down, I have to owe it to myself to at least do something positive for myself...I get a really good diet at the store, healthy things and then go for long stress free walks....you really have to tell yourself, 'at least my weight will be one less thing to depress me'...that is what I do...and if I do blow it once and a while...I just don't get down on myself...but what ever you do, don't punish yourself if you fail once in a while...I also pray a lot, to God and Jesus..cheer up darling, and my prayers are with you...

no matter if you may't end your emotional eating, remove all the nutrition which will make you benefit weight, and initiate basically snacking on like celery or some thing or chew on gum to save your mouth busy.

Start exercising. It is extremely healthy, and once you are feeling healthy and starting to look good, you won't feel the need as much to eat. Also you can check out hyptnosis

Quit being so emotional.

Go see a psychotherapist. Or a "food counselor", someone who will help you with your emotions and your diet!

try keeping yourself busy and out of the house as much as possible. if your out of the house you can only get food if you buy it, so just make sure you dont. save all the money you would have used for food as reward money and buy yourself something nice :)
