Religions are cults, think of how they boast their different faiths as "the one" and tell you that other faiths are wrong and you will pay dearly in the after life for following them. Faith is not mearly beilef, it is knowledge. Seperating churches into different faiths dishonors the very being which created us. For me I have one belief, that God has many names and many faces, but there is only one true creator. I do not follow church for it is man made, I do not follow all of the bible for the same reason, I follow what my conscience and my heart tell me I should. Those two things my friend are the voice of truth, I will not follow anything that has been passed down through mankind, through the arms of corruption and deceit. Cults and churches offer only one thing. Wealth of some sort to the one who teaches.

Which religion? which cult? Did you mean "I can not find the way forward with religions or cults, which way should I look?" I would not advise attaching the mind to any particular set of beliefs.
Secular Humanism is a good base line to begin with though they can be a bit political . Best of luck with the search.

How can any religion be better than cult when they're the same thing? (Cult definition 1 according to m-w.com)
But maybe you're talking about large accepted religions vs. small faiths with odd and oftentimes dangerous beliefs. (Cult definition 3 according to m-w.com) In which case, I'd go with the traditional religions rather than the cults.

Nope. The definitions are one in the same. Church sermons and rituals are no different than the ones practised in the scary cults... but at least most of the time those "scary atheist/pagan cults" aren't trying to kill OTHER people. They normally just want to die to get away from all the craziness that Christians profess.

A cult is an organisation / group of people who want to control others. They accomplish this by (a) targeting the weak and vulnerable (b) drawing them into a circle of "friends" who make them feel loved and wanted (c) gradually and insidiously take over their lives by convincing them that all their hopes and needs can be satisfied only within this select group and (d) make sure they never try to leave by putting them in fear of the consequences (like being cast out into a society that does not care for them, like never being able to contact their family again, like being destroyed by an angry god for daring to disobey what the cult teaches because they, and only they, have the truth).
Several organisations who fit that description spring to mind. To answer your question, I know from firsthand experience that cults are very dangerous and difficult to get out of but that the Christian gospel is liberating and life-enhancing.
You need to have experienced both before being able to know the difference.

Dictionaries are helpful.
A cult is a sub -culture. Religions by there definition are an organized system of beliefs developed by the prevailing culture. The two are on different planes of existences and therefore such comparisons of better or worse are , in reality, maybe not in fantasy land, incongruent.

In religion and sociology, a cult is a group of people (often a new religious movement) devoted to beliefs and goals which may be contradictory to those held by the majority of society. Its marginal status may come about either due to its novel belief system or due to idiosyncratic practices that cause the surrounding culture to regard it as far outside the mainstream.
Religion—sometimes used interchangeably with faith or belief system—is commonly defined as belief concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the moral codes, practices and institutions associated with such belief. In its broadest sense some have defined it as the sum total of answers given to explain humankind's relationship with the universe. In the course of the development of religion, it has taken a huge number of forms in various cultures and individuals. ...
