They probably live pretty peaceful lives. If you are not living in yesterday and not living FOR tomorrow, then you are in the NOW. Technically that is really all that exists.

There doesn't need to be any God, let alone a "living god" for an atheist. Atheists live for themselves. There is no supernatural for them, nor an afterlife. They live.....to live! Enjoy the time on Earth however you may, if you break the law, you go to jail. If you screw your bestfriend's wife, well....then you are out a bestfriend and your own wife. Consequences are immediate and finite. How could there NOT be a future for them. If they wake up in the morning, then its tomorrow. If they don't, then they believe that they would never know the difference anyway. Most of them don't care one way or another.

They don't need an excuse to be good people, they perform good deeds because its the right thing to do- not because they want to go to heaven.

The only 'fundamental issue' in atheism is the lack of a belief in a god or gods.
And there is absolutely no reason why not believing in a god means not believing in the future. Think about it this way, if you were to find out today that there is no god, what would you live for?

This question is ridiculous. OK I will inform you. If you believe that does that mean that you're only a good person because God (the adult version of Santa) is always watching you making sure you're a good boy and if you are you'll get your presents (go to heaven) or if not get a lump of coal (and burn in hell) if so then you cant really say you're a good person, its just an act. If you say you'd still be a good person without God watching then you dont need Him to BE a good person, do you?

People who dont believe in God get along quite well thanks a lot we find meaning in our lives by putting it there ourselves. Oh and as an atheist I dont believe in a living God, a dead god or anything that doesnt exist.

**Oh and its 'atheists' who are more in to living for the future. George Bush senior once told someone they didnt need to do any long term environmental protection because the 2nd coming was due.

This is the same old adage, "if you believe there is evil, how can you not believe in good?" People believe as they choose because they choose to do so. Perhaps you should consider not concerning youself with anything but what you want to believe, and let others have the freedom to do as it is their right. God deals with each soul in His own time, be careful when questioning God's job or how he accomplishes His goals. Without non-believers, believers would have no one to compare their religion too.

I get along quite nicely, thank you. It is not necessary to believe in god in order to believe that the sun will rise tomorrow (that is a reasonable conclusion, based on evidence) or to provide a motive for existence. Carl Sagan said: "If you want your life to have significance, do something significant." Since it is not possible to either prove or disprove the existence of god, it is provably useless to believe either way: no such belief can have any real world consequences of any kind.

I live to help others and to be with the ones I love. It's not really different from anyone religious, to be honest; I just do things because I believe they will make the world a better place, not because God told me to do them.

How can someone who has to give meaning to their pitiful life through infantile, made up god concepts even be able to look themselves in the mirror without becoming a self loathing troll? Gods do not exist and wishing won't make it so. The fact that someone can feel superior thinking this way makes Atheists think of religionists as a waste of skin.

I live like everyone else. I am looking forward to growing old with my husband, looking forward to grandchildren I can spoil rotten. I am looking forward to the Spring, because I love working in my garden.
I live for many things, too many to list here. I am no different from Christians, except I don't believe in god.

A lot of them live for themselves, for their own happiness. Since they don't believe in anything after this life, they are determined to make it count. Not all people need the promise of a glorious afterlife or a big parental figure looking over their shoulders to find happiness and meaning in life.
