My dog dusty is a 1.8 year old Terrier Mix. No matter what I do, I cannot get him to stop picking up one bit of food at a time, walking across the room, putting it down, then picking it up and chewing.

Pick up, walk, put down, pick up, chew, walk back, repeat.

Why do you think he's doing this?

I guess it's okay, I just don't like finding bits of uneaten food all over the floor. It's kinda like my biggest peeve.. I guess I'll just live with it.

Btw, applele/MAN reported again.

My dog does the same thing. We took it to the Vet and the doc said that the dog may not be comftable eating their food straight from bowl.No need to be concerned, its normal behavior.

Try changing her dishes. Get a heavy bowl that she can't push around and perhaps something that is deep so that she can't get her food out so easy. Also if you leave her food out all the time put her on a set eatting schedule that way when it's time to eat she isn't playing. If you feed her once in the morning and again in the afternoon she won't starve to death and she will realize that when the food is out it's to eat not to play. But I would also try getting a bowl for food and a bowl for water and make sure that the food bowl is deep and heavy so she can't push it around anymore.

this is normal my dog will carry about 5 pieces of food in her mouth.and drop it on the living room rug and eat it.it don't bother me .but if it bothers you you can try moving his bowl to another spot .where he might be convertible.i have another dog who lays down by the food dish while she is eating.its just another dog thing .just like dogs sniff each others butts to say hi.and check the other dog out.i guess things us humans will never really understand.

My nutty dog does the same thing. She sometimes puts a kernel in her bed the comes back later and digs around in the bed as if its hidden. I think in the past they used to have to hunt for their food and now its handed to them in a bowl. I guess they have that instinct to hunt for it again.

mine does the same thing....in fact, she takes it out of the room to lay on the rug and eat, lol. Maybe they cant stand the smell of the whole bowl at once..too overwhelming,,,,,(is pretty bad) another thought, maybe its easier to protect that one piece then the whole bowl........

Maybe they only eat in their "territory". Or it's a dog thing.
