I've got a younger friend who's 13 years old. He really likes metal and punk but hasn't heard much of either. His parents aren't really sheltering or anything but they DO pay attention to what their son is up to and don't let him get into trouble (because they're good parents, a rare find these days). They don't really approve of drunken parties, songs about sex and all that tripe. Anyway, he asked me if I'd burn him a CD of metal and punk for Christmas and I'm trying to think of a good mix that his parents would be OK with. Any suggestions?

I'd recommend that something fairly bland and commercial would have all of those messages in the lyrics to attempt to attract listeners (as the music itself is poor).
The Sex Pistols and The Clash are a fine place to start as their music is more on social commentary.
Psychobilly is a form of punk that is very cool- maybe try the Batmobiles or the Zombies- who tend to use silly humour in their lyrics with very musical backing.

A lot of this has a Christian theme to it, so if that's not what you're looking for don't bother with this.

MxPx
Slick Shoes
Smiley Kids
Five Iron Frenzy (more ska though)

There's also Pennywise which isn't too bad. Check out Decapolis Records. They've got a bunch of that kind of thing that tends to be cleaner music.

Good luck!

im a 13 year old and i listen to punk nd metal and that isnt exactly something parents dont like you listening to. my parents dont want me listening to rap. if he isnt used to listening to it dont burn him heavy metal cause it doesnt sound very good the first time round. punk would be a better option. gd luck wid it, im sure the songs'll be jus fine

well, punk and metal are WAY cleaner then the rap I listen to , try some bowling for soup, blink-182, green day

{all these have some clean, some dirty songs} you should have no problem finding clean ones

deja vu, reminds me when i was 13 and couldnt listen to dirty rap
