These facts about Jehovah's Witnesses are perhaps relevant to this question. The more one compares this Christian religion with others, the more remarkable it is shown to be.

1. Jehovah's Witnesses have no paid clergy. Yet they remain tightly organized with more than 6.5 million active Jehovah's Witness preachers (about 16 million associate themselves with the religion). Even fulltime preachers and workers at their branch offices are unpaid volunteers.

2. There is no elite class among Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the few 'anointed' among them enjoy no special privileges in their congregations on earth. An anointed person (one of those relative few with a heavenly hope) is not elevated above his fellow congregants in any way, and he may not even qualify for appointment as a simple 'deacon' or elder. There are no titles; EVERYONE is addressed as 'brother' or 'sister'.

3. No person benefits economically from the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the 8 to 20 men who serve on their Governing Body receive simply room, board, medical care, and reimbursement for certain personal expenses according to the exact same provision as every other branch volunteer.

4. About a hundred men have served on Jehovah's Witnesses' Governing Body committee during the past 125 years or so. The vast majority of them have spent the vast majority of their adult lives volunteering for their organization's purposes, and the vast majority have died faithfully and near-pennilessly while still under their legal 'vow of poverty'.

5. Amazingly, Jehovah's Witnesses did not splinter as a sect from some other religion. Instead, a truly tiny but sincere group of bible students studied only the Scriptures to determine the will of God. Thus their religion remains absolutely independent of and not carrying the sins of Christendom's history, yet carries the authority of Christ's teachings.

6. Despite the distortions of anti-Witnesses, throughout their modern history Jehovah's Witnesses have refused to claim divine inspiration or infallibility for their teachings. They have pointed to the bible (and not any particular translation) as the only inspired infallible means of knowing God's thoughts. For over 125 years, their teachings have been presented as merely the results of sincere bible research by imperfect but godly humans.

As one of Jehovah's witnesses I can tell you that the answers you already have gotten, the answerers have no idea about Jehovah's witness beliefs at all the statements that I have seen there, are absolutely and totaly flawed, not at all factual, Stephanie B you say, that we don't believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and therefore cannot, call ourselves Christians, that is so untrue, we do believe in Jesus and that he is God's son, In factJesus is our Leader and in charge of our Congregation and we do our utmost to follow his example because Jesus left us a model to follow(1Peter2:21)booh we are not excommunicated unfairly it only happens when or if we commit a serious sin as described in the Bible and if we remain unrepentant, in such a case yes we would get excommunicated, but it is only according to what the Bible says not the rules of the society had made up, yummy good, while it is true that we take the Bible very seriously, we do know and understand that it is literal in some parts and not in other parts, and we, therefore, do a lot of research of it, to get the right understanding with God's help! and if the questioner would like the real facts, then I would suggest that the questioner seek out the witnbesses or ask questions about witnesses when they come to your door, they will tell you all the facts you wish to know, I could tell you here but I don't want to write a book on it, there are books already written and much better ones than I could write the book, the other thing you could do to get the true facts is go to the official website(watchrtower .org) and there you can search for the answers to your questions about the Witnesses of Jehovah! you certainly have not got the facts here in your answers, because these answerers do not know much about witnesses, for either the reason of maybe listening to heresay of others who don't know but have oppinions about the witnesess, or they are just guessing and adding more oppinions of their own, oh the other thing I forgot which answerer said that Witnesses have messed up the NWT, that is a view I had before I became a Witness myself, I was studying the Bible, and did not believed hat the NWT was incorrect, so when I was talking to the Witnesses I was referring to my own Bible as well as theirs for every scripture they showed to me, and I did not find a single discrepency at all, all, I did prove, was that I was wrong, not that the Witnesses were, and so I found the truth, from the Bible!

Jehovah's witnesses are a sincere group of people preaching an abberation of Christianity; they are what is commonly called a "cult".

They have enough truth to draw the naive and unsuspecting in, but their errors on some of the major Christian doctrines are "way out there".

For instance, they do not believe in a literal hell, although the Bible talks about that very clearly.

They believe that Jesus is merely an angel, not the Son of God (or God the Son).

They do not believe in the literal resurrection of the body of Christ.

They change the words of the Bible with their own version of the scriptures, called ''the New World Translation", to fit their twisted doctrinal error.

For instance, in John 1:1 the Bible very clearly states: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." But in their perverted version, they say that the last part of that verse reads, "...and the word was a god". Ask any person who knows Greek and there is NO grammatical reason for the "a" to be inserted, nor should God be changed to god.

I'll share the little I know about them. They aren't a Christian religion even though they claim to be. They don't honor Jesus as Christians do, their whole focus is on this world and the coming "kingom" on this earth. They take every word of Revelations, a spiritual book, which even the writer said was spiritual because he said that the lampstands represented the churches and the candles of the lampstands represented the angels of the churches, they take it all literal that only 144,000 Jehovah's witnesses (and no one else) will go to heaven and the rest will go to new earth and be tested as Adam and Eve were only they will pass the test. First of all, the 144,00 people is the 12 tribes of Israel squared or the 12 apostles squared, which means "all" of Israel, "all" believers. Squared means - whole, perfect and complete. All that is really saying is that all of God's people from both covenants will go to heaven but they err because everything is taken literal and their whole focus is on changing this world. They also have strict laws, which goes against Christianity if you read the book of Galatians and they follow the teachings of a man named "Charles Russell". They don't just read the bible and ask the holy spirit to guide them, they read his version of it with his interpretations with it. Charles Russell, by the way was an ungodly man, I can't remember the exact details of his life but you could look it up on the web, just try not to read a version they wrote, but an unbiased version that will tell the truth. That's everything I know. I hope it helps. I hope you pray about this before entering into it and I sincerely hope you don't.

Setting aside any Bible issues, they believe in obeying the law, even the inconvenient ones, such as speed limits when late for work.

They believe in paying taxes, even though there are many ways they could avoid them, as many religions do.

They believe in keeping their word, such as to the IRS that they will not promote politics in the church, and they actually mean it.

They teach their youth that waiting until marriage is preferable to using protection, and for the most part, the youths actually believe it. As a result, they have the lowest rates of out-of-wedlock births and STDs. Yes, there is the occasional ones who would rather have their fun now than wait, but there are far more who choose to wait.

They treat their youth with respect, not just "do what you're told!"

Youths are taught side by side with the adults, the Bible as a whole, and not just Bible stories. The very young may not understand what they are being taught, but by the time you reach the age of understanding, they have a good basic knowledge of the scriptures.

The congregations never get so large that the individual gets lost in the crowd. Since everyone is taught the same, it is easy to start a new congregation, with a set of elders.

Everyone knows everyone, whether in their congregation, or in their circuit. When Katrina happened, every Jehovah’s Witnesses living in New Orleans could be found in Texas, with every individual accounted for. How many other religions could say for certain they knew that none of those left behind belong to one of their churches?

They believe their Kingdom Halls should compliment a neighborhood, and not overwhelm it, so they are small and don’t include a lot of expensive decorative features. Each KH can hold up to four congregations.

The greatest difference between JWs and the rest of Christendom can be answered with just one question.

WHAT DAY DO YOU OBSERVE THE MEMORIAL ON?

Everyone else will falter around and perhaps come up with a day in May, but all JWs will say at sunset on Niacin 14, which falls on the first full moon after the vernal equinox, the Memorial of the Last Supper. This is the only day, aside from wedding anniversaries, that Christ said to continue keeping, yet Jehovah's Witnesses are the only Christian organization that does.

Whatever you may say about whether it is right or wrong to observe the man-made holidays created since the first congregations, the fact remains that Christendom does not observe the one day Christ said to keep. What does that say for the leaders of Christendom, that they ignore that one important day of the year, and don't even know what day it falls on?

The question of holidays gets asked a lot, yet the facts of why are clearly evident. Even the Churches of Christendom recognize that the holidays and observances are not in keeping with Bible teachings, yet they fear that doing anything about it will jeopardize their positions and power. Check any religious encyclopedia about the holidays and their history.

So the question is not why don't witnesses celebrate the holidays, but why does Christendom celebrate something not taught in the Bible? Further, why don't they know what day Christ said to observe and why don't you observe it on that day?

Whatever you may think of any of the other beliefs of JWs, you have to ask yourself is the need to observe these holidays more important than observing the day Christ said to keep?

Recognized Greek scholars believe they really messed up the NWT , so you should not trust the Bible they give you.

They don't believe in the trinity.

I once participated in a group of ex-Jehovah's Witnesses and was amazed that 9 out of 10 of them had major stress related illnesses.

If you ever get a life saving blood transfusion they will kick you out of the Kingdom Hall.

They discourage you from having friends that are not Jehovah's witnesses.

They have had many fake prophecies.

I adore witnessing to them but WOULD NEVER suggest anyone join them. If you are wanting to witness to them please e-mail me.

Jehovah's wittiness believe in Jesus and that he is God's son and that Gods name is Jehovah, They are all awed to talk at the table or "chin chin" while eating. They have rules and if you don't follow them u could be excommunicated but that is a drastic measure and they don't always do this.
U can email me if u need any info. I used to be 1 and my parents still are.

I grew up as one of them. Jehovah is the name of god. They do not believe in the trinity, god and jesus are two seperate individuals. They do not celebrate any holidays. They can have caffeine, don't smoke and they recruit others by spreading there message by going door to door. Witnesses believe this is the "end of days", and only a select number of people, 144,000 people, will go to heaven. The rest of the people deemed worthy are to live forever on earth. What else would you like to know?

Jehovah's Witnesses? Yes, that is the way they refer to themselves. It is a descriptive name, indicating that they bear witness concerning Jehovah, his Godship, and his purposes. "God," "Lord," and "Creator"—like "President," "King," and "General"—are titles and may be applied to several different personages. But "Jehovah" is a personal name and refers to the almighty God and Creator of the universe. This is shown at Psalm 83:18, according to the King James version of the Bible: "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth."
The name Jehovah (or Yahweh, as the Roman Catholic Jerusalem Bible and some scholars prefer) appears almost 7,000 times in the original Hebrew Scriptures. Most Bibles do not show it as such but substitute "God" or "Lord" for it. However, even in these Bibles, a person can usually tell where the original Hebrew text uses Jehovah because in those places the substituted words are written in large and small capitals, thus: GOD, LORD. Several modern translations do use either the name Jehovah or the name Yahweh. Hence, the New World Translation reads at Isaiah 42:8, "I am Jehovah. That is my name."

They deny the cardinal truths of historical christianity.
Their founder has a pyramid on his grave. Why is that when the "Reasoning from the Scriptures" book they have says pyramids are of the occult?
