Even my 16 years old daughter doesn't walk around alone at night. I think it is appalling that parents can and do allow young ones to roam around after dark. It is irresponsible and inconsiderate, because they are the ones that then shout loudest when something does happen to their children. I would definately point out the dangers to my neighbour, as she has a responsibilty towards the safety of her child!

I can understand what you are talking about ,here though it doesn't have to be dark these for children to be put a risk there are weirdos perverts paedophiles hidden around every corner but the thought of hiding my child away rather than locking these things away leads me to be some what over protective of my child . though there comes a time when a child does neeed to realise some sort of independance, afterall how old were you went to the shop for your parents , the fact of the matter is that nowa days there aren't any more sickos in this world than when you were a child it is just more publisized to what these sickos do and when they are caught , I would have done the same as your self last night though !!!

I was 15 before my Dad would let me spend the day at the mall alone and that was 18 years ago! No, I don't think I was over protected. It would be great it you could find a way to mention it to your neighbor, that what they did was very dangerous. Maybe some people think their children are very smart and mature for their age, but the fact is that a 7 yr old is still just 7!

That really scares me, where we live I wouldn't feel comfortable going out after dark to buy milk let alone sending a child. Some parents really do scare me it only takes a split second for something to happen whether it be abduction etc, or even being hit by a car the list is endless.

I certainly wouldn't let my child out alone at this time after dark, especially not because I needed some milk!

its sad what parents take for granted nowadays. I'm a mum of a 2 yr old, so I'm not at the stage where I'd send him out to do anything. but sending out a 7 yr old to get milk at night doesn't sound good.

I think it is disgusting, my kids are 9 and 4 and i only let my 9 year old start playing out this summer, and i had to know where he was at all times, but he is not allowed out in the winter at all due to dark nights.
I worry myself stupid about my kids, they are going on a school trip on tues and im not kidding you, i am frantic about their safety already!

some parents never think anything could happen but that's soo not true when i was 8 i was walking home from brownies with my older sister and her friend when this car pulled up , pulled the window down and tried to pull me in i bit his hand and he drove off so i wish some parents would be more care full i am probably over protective with my kids but would rather be like that then not care enough

MY good Lord.....insanity!!!!!!!!!!! I live in Iowa, and there are often times, 4 and 5 yr olds, playing and running the streets ALONE (w/o parentals). It pisses me off so bad, everytime I see this, I think...why are there no CPS workers seeing this? And why are they taking kids out of loving, balanced, NORMAL homes and letting these poor lil' ones raise themselves practically!!!! There is no answer my friend........this world has simply gone mad.

My son is nearly 10 and has to be home before dark if he goes out to play with his friends unless he is at soomeones house i know and being brought home by an adult. It really upsets me to see kids out late, kids who dont seem to know how to cross a road safely etc..
