The question is mainly philosophical and less religious. Where a Hijab is recommended for Women, the men are instructed to keep their gaze low. On sighting a woman whomyou could legally marry, the first sight is no sin. The second sight, that is the intential sighting is a sin--- a minor sin but could be an initiator of, gradually becoming, a major sin. So the first step of precaution for women is Hijab, for men it is to keep a low gaze. In the sub-continent there is a popular saying in the Courts that all the suits are based on 3-Zeds(Zee in US): Zan- Zar- Zamin. In English it is : Woman- Money- Land. There goes the logic of it all. Remember that there is no specific design for Hijab. In quite large rural parts of India, the Hindu women must put a large portion of the Sari-dress over the face so as to hide it. It is against etiquettes to appear before elders without covering the face, the elders included the Older Brother of Husband. You could be amazed by seeing Hindu Woman riding a motor-bike. Face fully covered. The contours of the breasts not... Hijab question be left to women's own choice, not enforced by Law as in super-secular France. Woman should enjoy 'freedom of choice' of the whole dress-matter. It becomes polemics with a public agitation.

The concept of 'hijab' goes far beyond the most immediate which is that of the cloth that covers the face.
In the Glorious Qur’an, Allah (swt) first mentions ‘hijab’ for men before ‘hijab’ for the women. The Qur’an mentions in Surah Al Noor:
“Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.” [Al-Qur’an 24:30]
The moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he should lower his gaze.
This is the real hijab.
After this, Allah mentions the hijab, for the women -
The next verse of Surah Noor, says: “ And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, .. their sons,.., their brothers ..or their women, ..or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; ... And O ye believers! Turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.” [Al-Qur’an 24:31]
Islam does not give freedom for men to sin with their eyes or their minds.
On the other hand, there is no such thing as 'oppression' as you have hinted at. What makes a woman oppressed if she wears a physical hijab?

I will answer with another quote: Turn about is fair play. So men should wear the hijab. It would be more a more effective way to make the "weak" and "untrustworthy" women stay on the path.

As for men and hijab, they too are supposed to wear loose clothing that covers their bodies from naval to knee.
Hijab is asked of Muslim women in Islam. Hijab means to wear clothes that cover everything EXCEPT the hands, feet and face. NO WHERE in the Quran, or holy book of Islam, does it say we have to cover our face. That is a custom for some cultures. I personally wear pants and long sleeve shirts with the scarf over my hair. I am an American Muslim living in Kuwait.
I wear hijab because i want to. Not by force.
I just feel that my body is my proverbial temple. It is for me to decide who sees my body and i don't think every man that walks by is deserving of that. My beauty is for me and whoever i think is worthy of seeing it. Someone who is worthy of marriage. Living in Kuwait i feel i am more respected as a covered woman than when i didn't wear it. When i travel people think I'm oppressed and forced into submission because they just don't understand. Why should i let any man see me. Who is he to have the honor of seeing my body. I respect myself and for that reason... i cover.

If men were to be made to wear Hijab.... then the only persons face we would see are non-Muslim women.....
Because Muslim women already wear hijabs, and if men (Muslim and non-muslim were to wear them as well, what will be the point?
And also Muslim men would not wear it, because it's something that the non-Muslims are making it into practice to them when it's only for the women... theres nothing in Islaam orderingmen to wear veil.... so that plan would be a failure......

Forget about the hijab. Look at what the Pope bloody wears! The man looks like Liberache, honestly. He wears more gold jewelery than a drag queen. I know, because I used to be one.

NO men shouldn't be made to wear the hijab, although i believe in men and women being equal. There is no solid proof that women have to wear the hijab... its not in the quran...the fact that you have to cover your hair so u can be accepted by god... i cant believe it.
