NO! God forbids the worshipping of idols, not men. People are sinners and people do alot of stupid things. In the Bible God warned of worshipping idols, you're not supposed to do it.

Idol worshiping was not forbidden by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. It is already forbidden in Vedas.
The vedas teachings nowhere mention of idol worshiping.
It actually started few hundred years after the conquest of Aryans who later on were influenced by the local Dravidians culture and rituals and adpoted some of them.

no, i don't like the idea of idol worship, because although it is symbolic, in hinduism, people have taken it too far and they don't even learn the essence of the religion anymore, it's like christianity or islam now, about pleasing the god, loving it, hinduism is not supposed to be about that, if you read hindu texts, it talks about finding a path for yourself

when I first saw this question I thought you were one of the anti-catholic brigade. Glad to see your not. I was getting ready to explain how statues are like photographs - to remind us of our family in God and that we ask for intercession so we are not treating them as deity.

Mothers used to sacrifice their babies to their idols. They used to kill their own babies. How barbaric can you get.
