YEs I know it sounds like a pointless question but I went to the shoe shop yesterday with my 16 month daughter and they measured her feet and said they were very small and none fo the shoes in the shop go down to that size. She is size 2 1/2. Is that small compared to everyone elses toddler? And wat am I supposed to do for shoes now? Buy little baby booties? She started walking at 11 months but I put off buying shoes because I think it is better for them to not ahve shoes as long as possible.

My daughter is 16 months now also. Today we bought her some shoes and they were size 4 1/2 G.

A friend of mine has a dughter the same age and her feet are a size 3...but she hasn't started walking yet, so shoes are not a problem.

You are right that they recommend not wearing shoes at first, but my understanding of that is that the child needs to be walking flat on the foot (in my daughters case this started about a month after she took he first steps). After that, I don't know of any harm in wearing shoes for out doors, so long as your child is not wearing them all day at home.

This is probably not recommended by experts, but you could always try getting size 3 in the correct width, and then padding the toe with cotton wool to make the fit more comfortable. You're daughter will walk as if she is wearing flippers at first, but she'll soon get used to the wee bit of extra length.

Good luck!

Every child is obviously different but my little boy started walking at 9 1/2 months and was a size 4. He is now coming up two and is a 6. Clarkes were very good for there Babys First Shoe range.

Some shoe shops don't stock the smaller sizes. I bought my daughters first pair of shoes from Clarks ... size 2 ... they are a little more expensive, but at least they fit!! She is two years old now and takes a size 6! ... so they do grow pretty fast! You will probably find size 2 1/2 in a bigger shoe store in a main city! Good luck ... !!

My son is 14 months and got fitted for his first shoes last month and was a size 5! They did say that was quite big for his age!

I never put him in shoes until he was walking cos I was of the thinking he's got all his life to have shoes on - he may as well enjoy it while he can!

But I think you should get her proper shoes now, as they need the support once they are walking proper.

I think your daughters feet are small! My daughter was a size 5f by that age but then I'm a size 8!
Maybe find a site for premeture babies will do smaller sizes? The link below is for a french baby shoe site I just dug up with a search for 'shoes premature baby'. Have a scan on there. If not there must be someone out there who makes customised shoes? x

Yes it is small. My son started walking at 11 months but I didn't buy him shoes until he was 14 months old. His first pair were size 5 with a G fitting.

Yes they do sound kind of small but I can't blieve it has taken you so long to look for shoes!!
Yes it is good to let them get used to walking before getting shoes but only for a few weeks not 5 months!! What do you do when she is outside, let her run about bare foot!??
As for shoes, try Start-rite, they make them for smaller feet. They are a bit old fashioned but probably better than nothing.
