Lansoprazole is extensively metabolized in the liver. In patients with various degrees of chronic hepatic disease, the mean plasma half-life of lansoprazole was prolonged from 1.5 hours to 3.2-7.2 hours. An increase in the mean AUC of up to 500% was
observed at steady state in hepatically-impaired patients compared to healthy subjects. Dose reduction in patients with severe hepatic disease should be considered.

here's the problem with Yahoo answers. You ask for only doctors or Pharmacists, and you have knuckleheads weighing in that lansoprazole is an anti-fungal.

It is of course for stomach acid, and is classified as a proton-pump inhibitor.

Go ahead and give it to your patient. I'm not aware of a problem with elevated liver enzymes. If you don't believe me, obtain a package insert at any Pharmacy.

Before taking lansoprazole, tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver or kidney disease.

The USP-DI says that for patients with hepatic function impairment the risk/benefit ratio should be considered. In short, if benefits outweigh risks take it; and if not, don't take the drug.
