Each machine in a lab will come with standardized material known as standards for every test it will run. the machine will also have a calibration program that will use those standards .The machine will run the standards in triplicates establish a slope and intercepts.A quailified lab always run quality control matertial to make sure the machines are always in control. After you calibrate a test you run QC to make sure the test you calibrated is okay and ready to go.

Once you get your QC on track, then you will have to run your sample again. If your QC was off, then doing a simple mathematical conversion would be the same as "taking a guess". A Lab Tech does not take a guess, because a Lab Tech says "my QC is right, so my result is right."
